ЁЯжИ Shark Awareness Day | 14 July
When we think of sharks, fear often comes to mind. But the reality is very different. Sharks are among the oldest and most important species on Earth, having survived for over **400 million years**тАФlong before dinosaurs roamed the planet.
As apex predators, sharks play a critical role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems. Healthy shark populations help regulate marine food chains, support biodiversity, strengthen ocean resilience, and indirectly contribute to climate regulation through healthy blue-carbon ecosystems.
Unfortunately, sharks today face unprecedented threats from overfishing, illegal finning, habitat degradation, plastic pollution, and climate change. Millions of sharks are lost every year, putting entire marine ecosystems at risk.
At Vayambharati Foundation, we believe that protecting nature means protecting every component of our planet's biodiversityтАФfrom forests and rivers to oceans and marine life. Through awareness, education, sustainable practices, and community participation, we can contribute to healthier oceans and a more sustainable future.
ЁЯМК How can you help?
