Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association One of Manipur's oldest and most recognized Cultural Institution - dedicated towards preservation and promotion of the endangered martial art of THANG-TA.

Established by Padmashri Gurumayum Gourakishor Sharma - One of the most respected Cultural Gurus of Manipur, in the year 1958; the Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association has travelled a long history of struggle and sacrifices to transform the ferocious Manipuri Martial Art - 'Thang-Ta' into a World Class, amazing, fascinating Performing art to be show cased on the Cultural Stages of t

he World. Finding little support in his mission , Guru Gourakishor Sharma devoted his entire time, resources and energy to safeguard and promote the art of Thang-Ta not just inside the state of Manipur but also at nook and corner of the country as well as in the entire world. His unshakable belief and never tiring efforts saw the art of Thang-Ta getting recognized by all the prominent cultural departments and ministries of Govt. of Manipur as well as Govt. of India in the later part of 1970s. For his contribution to the world of Manipuri Art and Culture, in the field of Thang-Ta, The SANGEET NATAK ACADEMY - the premier organization of art and culture of India, felicitated Guru G. Gourakishor Sharma with the prestigious SANGEET NATAK ACADEMY AWARD in the year 1983. His journey didn't stop here and recognition to the art of Thang-Ta and to his efforts came pouring in one after another and in the Year 2009, the President of India conferred him with One of India's most Prestigious Civilian Awards - the 'Padmashri' for his life-long contribution to the art of Thang-Ta. Thereafter the Sangeet Natak Academy also conferred him the prestigious 'Sangeet Natak Academy Tagore Samman' in the Year 2012. The artists of our institution have traveled the world and won accolades and the hearts of the audiences at noon and corner of the Globe. The journey of international performances started in the year 1977 when group of Thang-Ta artists accompanied the then Prime Minister of India - Late Indira Gandhi on her visits to different nations of Africa. Thereafter, our artists have traveled to more than a hundred countries and the list of artists performing in different parts of the globe is increasing day by day, year after another. Not just our artists are traveling to the world, a large number of cultural enthusiasts from different parts of the country as well as a large number of foreigners have been visiting our institution every year and appreciated our efforts and our art.
