Pride of Kalimpong. Pride of Indian Gorkhas

Dr. Gambir Singh Yonzone, son of Sinji Busti, Kalimpong, is set to receive the prestigious Padma Shri Award for his lifetime of service to science, education, and society.

A pioneering botanist, first Fulbright Fellow from the hills, visionary educationist, and environmental crusader, Dr. Yonzone has dedicated his life to the Darjeeling Himalayas—documenting its rich plant heritage, nurturing young minds, and protecting its fragile ecology. From shaping generations as Principal of Kalimpong College to playing a key role in the creation of Singalila & Neora Valley National Parks, his legacy is deeply rooted in the mountains and its people.

Even in his 80s, he continues to inspire with humility, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to conservation and community welfare.

A truly deserving honor for a life lived in service.

After India’s glorious victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, our very own Gorkha daughter Uma Chhetri—the first-ever cricketer from Northeast India to lift the World Cup—returned to her home state Assam.

However, her quiet arrival at Guwahati airport went almost unnoticed — no state officials, no political representatives — only a handful of proud Gorkha community members stood with khadas and flowers to welcome the champion who made the nation proud.

This silence from the authorities deeply hurt the sentiments of thousands who see Uma not just as a sports icon, but as a symbol of perseverance, representation, and pride for the Northeast and the Indian Gorkha community. Social media soon erupted with anger and disappointment, demanding the respect she rightfully deserves.

In response, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has now announced a formal felicitation ceremony on 9th November 2025 to honor her historic achievement. The event aims to give Uma the recognition she truly earned on the world stage — as a trailblazer for women’s cricket in the Northeast.

Let this moment remind us that heroes may rise from the most humble corners, and their achievements deserve celebration from every heart and home.

End of an Era!

Gorkha pride Sunil Chhetri, former captain of the Indian National Football Team, has officially concluded his legendary international career after India’s exit from the final round of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.

At 41, the iconic striker retires as India’s all-time top scorer — netting 95 goals in 157 matches. His emotional farewell in June 2024 at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium will forever remain etched in the hearts of fans.

It has come to my notice from various sources continuously that there is confusion between my name, Sudhan Gurung, and another individual named Sudan Gurung from Nepal, in relation to the ongoing Nepal GenZ Revolution.

It has come to my notice that some media houses have mistakenly circulated my image in connection with the recent political protests in neighbouring Nepal. I formally state that the person 'Sudan Gurung' participating in these protests is a citizen of Nepal and is a different person altogether with no relation to me in any form. Incidentally both of us bear the same name and it stops here.

I formally state that I'am Sudhan Gurung, a responsible citizen of Republic of India a domicile of Darjeeling and I should not be mistaken for anyone else.

Any reporting, reference, or discussion about this confusion and stand in this movement must be made with accurate attribution. I would also like to clarify that Sudhan Gurung and Sudan Gurung are two separate individuals, and any misreporting or misunderstanding should be rectified at the earliest to avoid further misinformation and groups making vendetta for their vested interest. Different images of the incident of attack that had happened against me is also been misued in social media platforms.

I kindly urge media houses, online platforms, and individuals to avoid misrepresentation, as such confusion may mislead the public and dilute the integrity.

We appreciate the cooperation of all concerned in addressing this matter responsibly.

Such clarity is essential to maintain transparency, credibility, and respect for all those involved in this historic youth-led revolution.

Let "Truth" and "Transperancy" remain between our heart and I remain fully committed to these values. !
