SEWAK JATHA DADAR (SJD) is a socio-religious organization managed and run purely on voluntary basis, that was established 56 years ago with significant support of Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Regd.) YEAR: 2014: SEWAK JATHA DADAR (SJD) is a socio-religious organization managed and run purely on voluntary basis, that was established 57 years ago with significant support of Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Regd.) Mum

bai (SGSS).

* As the name implies, SEWA is at the core of our activities, which includes: Preparing and serving Karah Prashad / Langar / water; Sewa in Jorha ghar, etc. at Nagar Kirtans and Gurpurabs celebrated on a large scale by Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Regd) Mumbai, Dadar.

* Sewa at Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded during Hola Mohalla, Dasehra and at Gurdwara Manmad on Jorh Mela (annual congregation day).

* Jatha organizes celebration of Prakash Purab of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji every year at Gurdwara Dadar.

* Jatha has been playing an active role in the preparation and distribution of food supplies and other materials during natural calamities/emergencies/mass weddings/major sports events, etc.

* Above activities take the form of our overall SEWAS. The process of doing SEWA brought to us many opportunities of interacting with Sangat and students from various streams of education. This started up a new stream of THOUGHT PROCESS in terms of possibilities of SEWA.

* This new THOUGHT PROCESS led us to realize that there is no limit to the expanse of Sewa and we need to open up more avenues to reach out to a larger section of community. Now started a new journey for the Jatha to venture into many other areas.

* One aspect that kept coming up during discussions about the Sikh community as a whole, was the lack of EDUCATION in our children either due to lack of interest or lack of funds. The Jatha thus took a small but bold step in 2007 to create its awareness and importance and ventured into Annual programmes of honouring Saabat Soorat Sikh Students from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane city, scoring 75% and above in Std. From this year, as a mark of appreciation for AMRITDHARI students we have relaxed the % to 73 for them. The students are honored with Siropaus and individually named trophies in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Dadar Gurdwara Hall. We appreciate the moral and financial support of the Sangat towards this project. At the Annual Felicitation event, a Souvenir is also released which has ads and articles on various religious and social topics. The Cover previously dedicated to were: Working towards a Green Earth (2011), Saving the Girl Child (2012), Nurturing the Life of a Girl Child (2013) and this 27th July it was dedicated to the need for EDUCATION (2014).

* During Nagar Kirtans we observed that a lot of litter is thrown around and this becomes a prominent eyesore in the eyes of the comman man. So, understanding our responsibility towards society, from year 2012 we have added the Sewa of cleaning up the litter left on the roads during the Nagar Kirtan. Here too we received a lot of support from many in the Sangat who come out on their own and joined us by bringing in disposable bags, etc..

* Wastage of Langar is another area that caught our attention. Creating awareness via Facebook, posters, banners, sms, etc. and with the support of other Jathas, we have implemented a couple of measures from this year to avoid wastage of food during Langar.

* SJD has also conducted 3 workshops in various state-of-the-art auditoriums where the essence of the corporate world was demonstrated in the Light of Gurbani. Topics covered included Leadership, Positive Attitude, Time Management, Success, Communication, etc.

* Seminars on FIRST-AID and FIRE-FIGHTING were also conducted by SJD with the support of Sabha in the Dadar Seminar Hall where professionals from the respective fields were called to cover the Theory as well as the Practical sessions. To sum it all, while Sewak Jatha Dadar continues serving people with its basic SEWA in Langar and related activities, it is constantly on the lookout for venturing into newer areas of service to Community, WHAT NEXT??? In 2014, Jatha conducted pre-exam and post exam workshops for Std X students which included Career Guidance workshops (jointly organized with Sri Guru Singh Sabha Dadar and Vashi), followed by Aptitude Test and one-on-one counselling with the student and his/her parents. Over 250 students participated in these events. Jatha will shortly be coming up with more programmes for Std X students. Last but not the least we acknowledge the overall support given to us by Sri Guru Singh Sabha (Regd) Mumbai in all of our Sewas. Jatha can be reached at [email protected]
