Relief Materials Distributed in Tizit with support from GOONJ
DAN facilitated distribution of relief materials to the families affected by flash floods in Tizit town during July 19, 2026. Nearly 700 families were severely affected by the flash flood that inundated all of the low-lying areas of Tizit causing severe damage to property and crops across the region and neighbouring Assam.
On request from the local leaders, DAN reached out to GOONJ. GOONJ is a renowned Indian NGO that utilizes urban surplus—such as clothing, textiles, and household goods—as an alternate currency to drive community-led development while honouring human dignity. During emergencies and natural disasters, Goonj mobilizes swift relief and long-term rehabilitation by supplying essential material kits to affected families, empowering communities to rebuild their own infrastructure rather than relying on passive charity.
In the current outreach support programme, 325 families were provided with a kit consisting of Dari-, cloth ropes, bedsheet, handmade towel, water bottle, rice - 5 kgs, dal - 2 kgs, sleeping bag, sanitary napkins and mosquito nets.
The process of assessment, mobilization and distribution was closely supported and carried out by the Konyak Union, Tizit and spearheaded by the Konyak student’s union in collaboration with the councils of different wards of Tizit town headquarters. The distribution was carried out on 05th September, 2026 from 6:00am onwards at the Konyak Union office, Tizit Town.
