Pikkollo is start-up based in IIT Madras which aims to efficiently manage and recycle waste produced at a household level in order to reduce the increasing pressure on landfills. Pikkollo has secured the first position in the Start-Up Bootcamp organized at IIT Madras. We aim to tackle the problem of ever growing landfills and inefficient waste management systems present today. We are also working
for the upliftment of the working conditions of rag-pickers, who are the backbone of our operations. We have created a network of rag-pickers, who go about neighbourhoods, collecting the waste from there. This waste is then taken to collection centres where it segregated into different categories and then sent on to recyclers for recycling. This helps reduce the strain on the already over- burdened landfills by filtering out the recyclable waste at the grass-roots. We focus on the empowerment of the people working with us. Apart from this, we have also increased the daily pay which they would get for the same work they do on the streets from a meager sum to an equivalent of any daily wage worker.
