One-Day FPO Workshop-cum-Planning Meeting Held in Bokaro
A one-day FPO Workshop-cum-Planning Meeting was organized in Bokaro district under the joint aegis of NABARD and PRADAN. Representatives from 19 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) across the district, along with members of various NGOs, actively participated in the program. The primary objective of the meeting was to strengthen FPOs and develop a concrete action plan for their sustainable growth.
The workshop focused on key issues such as FPO development, enhancing farmers’ income, strengthening market linkages, organizational capacity building, and addressing region-specific challenges.
Mr. Vijay Kumar Mahato, Secretary of Asha Kiran Seva Sansthan, Bokaro, shared valuable suggestions on strengthening FPOs and highlighted the growing issue of elephant attacks in the region, which have been causing significant losses to farmers. He emphasized the need for collective strategies, crop protection measures, and better convergence with government schemes.
Mr. Ajay Kumar Mahato, Coordinator of the organization, elaborated on FPO structure, training, financial management, and the importance of long-term business planning to ensure sustainability.
A special address was delivered by Philmon Bilung, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, who provided detailed insights into the planning process, available financial assistance, and relevant government schemes. He encouraged FPOs to adopt a business-oriented approach and work towards self-reliance.
From PRADAN, Mr. Amit Mahto, Ms. Jyotsna Jaiswal, and other representatives also shared their perspectives on strengthening FPOs, enhancing farmers’ capacities, and improving market access.
The program concluded with a collective commitment from all participants to work collaboratively towards making FPOs stronger, self-reliant, and farmer-centric institutions in the district.
