The Bodhichitra School of Thangka Painting is the only Thangka
studio in Bodhgaya, the most Sacred Buddhist site, and has four
principle objectives:
1) To provide skills and employment opportunities to Indian youth
2) To provide these young artists with the philosophical and
ethcal skills to effect positive change in their communities
3) To bring home to North India, the ancient Buddhist sta
te of
Magadh, the art form that originated here but has since been lost
4) To preserve the Karma Gadri tradition of Thangka painting for
future generations
The School offers a comprehensive 4 year program to students
giving them a firm foundation in the skills required for the Karma
Gadri School that is rooted in Dharma theory and practice and
includes, Traditional Iconography, composition and technical
painting skills. The school accepts local and foreign students, male and female, with the following qualifications:
at least 15 years of age
secondary education
a strong sense of commitment to sacred art
in good health and of sound mind
Bodhichitra also offers a number of short courses ranging in length from weekend to week-long focusing on specific content, such as painting a particular deity or mandala. Private courses of any duration and subject can be arranged on request. The school accepts adult students of either s*x and any nationality with a sincere interest in sacred art.
