12th January is observed as the National Youth Day all over the country. In 1984 the Government of India declared 12th January as and since 1985, every year youth day is been celebrated in India. This day is celebrated to motivate and encourage the youth of the country who are facing challenges in their life.
Indian Government had chosen this day to honor Swami Vivekananda, as on the same date in 1863, Swami Vivekananda was born. Swami Vivekananda was one of India’s greatest spiritual and social leaders. It is him, who saw a bright future of India in present youth and said, with “muscles of iron” and “nerves of steel” present youth could bring the social change, also, “man-making is my mission“. Today, more than 50% of youth are age between 20-30 years old and the responsibility of riding the nation is on their shoulders.
More About Vivekananda
Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1983 and was there with us till July 4, 1902. He was a Hindu monk of Indian descent and the main disciple of the mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. He was the one who traveled all over the world to teach people and gave lectures about Hinduism. He presented Indian, Hinduism at the Parliament of the World’s Religions, Chicago, United States and in Europe as well. Not only this Vivekananda introduced the philosophies of Vedanta and introduced Yoga to the Western world. His address received many applauses and a two-minute standing ovation from a crowd of 7,000.
He published a number of books from 1887 till his death on July 4th, 1902, these books were Sangeet Kalpataru, Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga, Vedanta Philosophy: An Address before the Graduate Philosophical Society, Bartaman Bharat, My Master, and Vedânta philosophy: Lectures On Jnâna Yoga.
