We are pleased to share a remarkable case of ulcer healing managed under our dedicated care and follow-up. The patient initially presented with a deep plantar ulcer associated with loss of sensation, posing a high risk for infection and further complications.
Through timely intervention, regular wound dressing, proper offloading techniques, and patient education on self-care practices, significant improvement was observed over time. The progressive stages clearly demonstrate healthy granulation tissue formation and gradual wound contraction, ultimately leading to successful healing.
This case highlights the importance of early detection, consistent care, and patient compliance in preventing disability among persons affected by leprosy. Our team also emphasized the use of protective footwear and daily self-inspection to avoid recurrence.
We remain committed to strengthening community-based rehabilitation, promoting awareness, and ensuring quality care for every individual in need.

An Active Case Detection (ACD) survey was successfully conducted at Badpada village under Jeypore Block with the objective of early identification and management of leprosy cases. The activity was carried out by the dedicated team in coordination with local health workers and community volunteers.
During the survey, house-to-house visits were conducted to screen individuals for early signs and symptoms of leprosy. Special emphasis was given to community awareness through effective flash card demonstrations, helping villagers understand key symptoms such as hypopigmented patches, loss of sensation, and nerve involvement.
Suspected cases identified during the screening were further evaluated, and slit skin smear samples were collected for laboratory confirmation. Counseling was provided to suspects and their family members to reduce stigma and encourage timely treatment.
In addition, the team focused on: • Educating the community about the curability of leprosy with MDT
• Promoting self-reporting of symptoms at the earliest
• Addressing myths and misconceptions associated with leprosy
• Encouraging proper hygiene and self-care practices
• Strengthening linkage with ASHA workers for follow-up and referral
The ACD campaign plays a crucial role in early diagnosis, prevention of disability, and breaking the chain of transmission. The active participation of the community and support from local stakeholders made this initiative highly effective and impactful.
Together, we move closer towards a leprosy-free society.

An IPOD (Integrated Prevention of Disability) camp was successfully conducted at Rajeev Nagar UPHC with the aim of strengthening disability prevention and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by Lymphatic Filariasis (LF). The camp focused on early identification of complications, comprehensive patient assessment, and promotion of effective self-care practices essential for long-term morbidity management.
During the camp, beneficiaries were provided with counselling on hygiene, limb care, and preventive measures to reduce the risk of acute attacks and progression of disability. Special emphasis was laid on patient education to encourage adherence to self-care routines and regular follow-up.
A key highlight of the programme was the distribution of EVA protective footwear to LF-affected persons by Dr. Padmavathi, Medical Officer. The provision of appropriate footwear plays a crucial role in preventing injuries, reducing secondary infections, and enhancing mobility and functional independence among patients.
The successful organization of this camp reflects a dedicated effort towards community-based rehabilitation, strengthening primary healthcare services, and ensuring patient-centered care. Such initiatives contribute significantly to the national goal of eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis and promoting a healthier, disability-free community.
