The Ashok Patnaik Memorial Sports Competition, an annual calendar event organized by the Odisha Sports Journalists’ Association (OSJA), was successfully held at Utkal Karate School here on Tuesday.
The event began in the morning with OSJA members extending their heartfelt tributes to tsports journalist, Dr. Ashok Patnaik, who died on August 18, 1998.
OSJA’s former President K. Ravi, along with President Sandeep Mishra, Working President Samikshya Patnaik, Vice President Sanjeeb Biswal, Secretary Tapan Swain, and SJFI Vice President Suresh Swain, paid homage and shared fond memories of the late Dr. Patnaik.
Thereafter, OSJA enthusiastically participated in shooting, slingshot (Batuli) and arm wrestling competitions.
The event also witnessed the presence of guests, including Hari Prasad Patnaik (Founder, Utkal Karate School), Chittaranjan Swain (President, Odisha Weightlifting Association), and Gouri Mohanty (Secretary, Odisha Karate Association).
The winning athletes across all categories will be officially felicitated on August 29, coinciding with the Foundation Day of the Utkal Karate School.
Results:
Women's Events
Shooting: Samikshya Patnaik emerged as the winner in the 50+ age category, while Subhalaxmi Bal claimed the title in the Under-50 category.
Arm Wrestling: Subhalaxmi Bal won the championship, with Samikshya Patnaik finishing as the runner-up.
Men's Shooting
Under-50 Category: Chakradhar Majhi won Gold, Prafulla Kishore Sahu took Silver, and Debashish Sundaray claimed Bronze.
50+ Category: Sarbeswar Mohanty won Gold, Suresh Swain took Silver, and Santosh Mohanty bagged Bronze.
Slingshot (Batuli):
Suresh Swain secured the 1st position, followed by Tapan Swain in 2nd, and Bimal Roul in 3rd.
Men's Arm Wrestling
Under-70 kg Category: Shakti Prasad Nanda won Gold, Prafulla Kishore Sahu took Silver, and Chakradhar Majhi claimed Bronze.
Above-70 kg Category: Sukesh Ranjan Behera won Gold, Sandeep Mishra took Silver, and Anadi Kar secured Bronze.
The shooting competition was officiated by Gurupada Mohanty, Ratiranjan Swain, and P. Akash Kumar. The slingshot competition was overseen by State Association Secretary Sapan Kumar Mishra. The arm wrestling events were successfully conducted under the supervision of Sagar Swain, Jayant Kumar Behera, Dhaneswar Sahu and Sanat Mahar.
