Scholarship for Deserving Children

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Innerwheel Club of Bangalore Vijayanagar took up a scholarship initiative to support and encourage deserving students in their pursuit of higher education.

Three children who had secured outstanding marks in their 10th Standard examinations were identified and awarded a scholarship of ₹2,000 each, with a total contribution of ₹6,000.

The selection was based not only on their academic performance but also on their financial and family circumstances. The beneficiaries included children from single-parent families and a child whose father works as a security personnel. These students were identified as children who were genuinely in need of financial support to continue their education.

The scholarship is a token of appreciation, encouragement and support for their hard work and academic achievement. We hope this assistance helps them pursue their further education with confidence and motivates them to continue striving towards their goals.

We also hope that the achievements of these three students will inspire other children in the school to work hard, pursue their education and believe in their potential.

FITNESS & SELF-DEFENCE SESSION – A MEANINGFUL GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATION

Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Vijayanagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a meaningful and empowering way by conducting an interactive Fitness and Self-Defence Session for the students of BBMP Government Mudlu Palya School, covering students from the 8th, 9th and 10th standards.

The session was conducted by Mr. Paranvir, Senior Instructor, RK Martial Arts, who engaged the students in an energetic and highly interactive self-defence session. The students were introduced to basic techniques that can help them protect themselves and respond confidently in difficult situations.

Mahatma Gandhi envisioned an India where women could live with freedom and dignity. His vision reminds us that true independence must also mean that every girl should be able to move through society with confidence and without fear. Empowering girls with awareness, confidence, physical fitness and self-defence skills is therefore an important step towards creating a truly independent India.

The session was a beautiful way to connect the values of Gandhiji—freedom, courage, self-reliance and empowerment—with the needs of today’s generation.

We sincerely thank Mr. Paranvir for conducting such an inspiring and interactive session. His commitment to society is truly commendable. He also runs his martial arts academy free of cost for certain children, providing them an opportunity to learn and grow. Following the session, several girls approached him to enquire about enrolling in his free training sessions, which was a heartwarming indication of the impact created by the programme.

The club also felicitated Mr. Paranvir in appreciation of his valuable contribution and dedicated service towards empowering children.

Project 21 – Effects of To***co and Cancer

Counsellor Shubha Jaiprakash

Counsellor Shubha Jaiprakash, a B.Sc., DBA and DCS (Diploma in Counselling Skills from Banjara Academy), conducted an informative and interactive awareness session for the students on the “Effects of To***co, Cancer, Narcotics and Drugs.”

She is currently a Trustee of Vandematram Gurukulam and has undergone specialised training in:

* Life Skills Training from NIMHANS
* Palliative Care Counselling from Karunashraya
* Grief Counselling from the Indian Cancer Society
* Wellness Being Volunteer Training from NIMHANS Centre for Wellness

She is currently a volunteer with the Indian Cancer Society and has previously volunteered with NIMHANS, Spandana De-Addiction Centre and Youth for Seva. She also works as a freelance counsellor for a children’s home and a government school.

Programme Highlights

The session was conducted for approximately 2½ hours and included a PowerPoint presentation, interactive discussion, questionnaire and quiz.

Counsellor Shubha explained the harmful effects of to***co consumption, smoking, alcohol, narcotics and other addictive substances, highlighting their short-term and long-term impact on physical health, mental well-being and family life.

She also sensitised the students about how substance use can sometimes begin innocently through peer pressure, curiosity or experimentation, and how it can gradually develop into addiction. The importance of making informed choices, resisting peer pressure and seeking help at the right time was emphasised.

The students actively participated in the questionnaire and quiz. A prize was presented to a student who answered the quiz correctly. The winning student was also given an opportunity to speak for two minutes, making the session more interactive and engaging.

As part of the programme, caps were distributed to the beneficiaries, and written feedback was collected from the students regarding the session.

The programme created awareness among the students about the serious consequences of to***co and substance abuse and encouraged them to make healthy choices. The interactive format helped the students understand the risks associated with addiction and the importance of staying away from harmful substances.

The session was well received by the students and proved to be an impactful awareness initiative under the Narcotics and Drugs category.

Counsellor Shubha Jaiprakash was felicitated on behalf of the Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Vijayanagar as a token of our appreciation and gratitude for conducting such an informative and impactful awareness session.

A small token of love and appreciation was presented to her in recognition of her valuable contribution towards creating awareness among the students about the harmful effects of to***co, narcotics and substance abuse.

We sincerely thank our Past President Hemalatha Hemant, Vice President Madhura Krishnegowda, Secretary Deepti Nagendra, Joint Secretary Lakshmi Jagdish, and Committee Member D. K. Shanta for attending the project and extending their valuable support.

Their presence and encouragement contributed greatly towards making this awareness programme a grand success.

PROJECT 20 – Joint Project with Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore South

As part of a joint project with the Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore South, along with 18 other Inner Wheel Clubs, the Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Vijaynagar supported pediatric cancer patients at Kidwai Cancer Hospital.

Our club contributed ₹3,000 towards essential medicines for children undergoing cancer treatment.

We feel truly grateful and privileged to be part of this meaningful initiative, extending our support to children and their families during their challenging journey. Every contribution, however small, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
