Exciting conversations yesterday at Soho House Mumbai.

Cecilia Oldne, Chief India Representative of the Sweden–India Business Council (SIBC), met up with Sven Östberg, Consul General of Sweden in Mumbai, to discuss the growing momentum across the Sweden–India business corridor — with a particular focus on Maharashtra and Goa.

The discussions covered opportunities around the India–EU FTA, investments, tech, AI, innovation, entrepreneurship, and upcoming India-to-Sweden and Sweden-to-India delegations and collaborations — as well as Mumbai’s important role as both the financial and entertainment capital of India.

They also discussed the upcoming ImagiNxt conference taking place on 22–23 May in Mumbai, where several SIBC members and partners will be speaking and participating on stage.

Sven also learned more about the Sweden India Tech Community (SITEC), one of the initiatives Cecilia runs. Soon celebrating 10 years, SITEC has grown into the strongest and most active platform connecting Sweden and India across tech, AI, startups, corporates, investors, academia, media, government, and innovation ecosystems.

Also discussed were delegations, events, and initiatives taking place throughout the year — including within manufacturing, life sciences, tech and AI, and family offices.

Also in the picture is Dominique Westaway of Soho House & Co Mumbai. A Sweden–India collaboration and event connecting the two ecosystems at Soho House is already in the making…

As one of the world’s most active country-to-country business organizations, SIBC continues to stay at the forefront of strengthening the partnership between Sweden and India.

Reach out if you’d like to know more about what’s brewing across the Sweden–India corridor — and how you can get involved! 🇸🇪🇮🇳

Big goals need bold ex*****on — and the right platforms to make them happen.

As a founding partner of Bharat1.ai, Sweden-India Business Council is excited to support the launch of Bharat1.ai in Bangalore.

Bharat1.ai is an ambitious AI ecosystem bringing together innovators, startups, researchers, industry leaders, investors, and policymakers to help build real-world AI solutions for India and beyond.

This initiative marks an important step forward — moving from ideas and discussions to real ex*****on and high-impact solutions for India’s growth journey.

What makes this especially powerful is the collaboration potential. Sweden’s strengths in innovation, sustainability, and advanced technologies align strongly with India’s scale, talent, entrepreneurial energy, and digital momentum.

Our Chief India Representative, , attended the launch alongside several members and partners from Sweden-India Business Council (SIBC) community — reflecting the growing momentum around Sweden–India collaboration within AI and emerging technologies.

Manufacturing in India Is Accelerating and Why Swedish Companies Should Take Note 🇮🇳🇸🇪

On 16 April, the Sweden-India Business Council hosted an executive roundtable with senior leaders from companies, partners, and organisations on “Manufacturing in India: The Decision-Making Process.”

The session was led by Chairman Håkan Kingstedt, with insights from Bo Thörn, former President of Saab FFV Ordnance, alongside legal expert Nandish Vyas and FDI advisor Varda Taneja.

Key considerations for setting up manufacturing in India 📊
• Clearly define your objective. Are you targeting the Indian market, global exports, or both?
• Build a strong business case based on realistic cost structures, investment planning, and market intelligence
• Evaluate infrastructure and location early. State-level policies, incentives, and ecosystems can significantly impact outcomes
• Plan for localisation and regulatory navigation from the outset

India has made significant progress in building a competitive manufacturing environment.

🚀 The EU-India Free Trade Agreement concluded in January 2026 will further accelerate this momentum. Tariff reductions across a majority of sectors will improve cost competitiveness and strengthen India’s position as a manufacturing base for both domestic consumption and exports to Europe.

To support this opportunity, Sweden-India Business Council will be leading a Manufacturing Delegation to India from 31 August to 4 September 2026, covering key industrial hubs including Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune-Chakan.

More details to follow soon. If you are exploring manufacturing in India, feel free to reach out.

Early movers will shape the next phase of growth!

The India Strategy for Business Region Göteborg Presented 🇮🇳🇸🇪

April 14 marked the presentation of ’s India Strategy, an important milestone in strengthening the ties between India and the Gothenburg region. It was held in presence of H.E. Anurag Bhushan, Ambassador of India to Sweden.

Over the past year and a half, we have worked closely with Business Region Göteborg AB (BRG) to develop a dedicated India strategy.

Gothenburg’s unique position, home to Sweden’s largest Indian professional community, a strong industrial and technology base, and increasing two-way investments with India, has underscored the need for a more structured and forward-looking approach to support regional growth.

Building on this foundation, BRG and the Sweden-India Business Council (SIBC) have jointly shaped a strategy focused on deepening collaboration. The ambition is to attract Indian companies to Gothenburg, support local businesses expanding into India, and strengthen overall trade, investment, and partnerships between the two markets.

Within this framework, BRG will focus on positioning Gothenburg as a leading hub for innovation and sustainability, particularly in sectors such as automotive, green technology, life sciences, and ICT.

Sweden-India Business Council will complement this by enabling business connections, offering market insights, and supporting companies in navigating the complexities of India-Sweden collaboration.
