They said the fortress-model of forest conservation has led to suffering of traditional forest-dwelling communities. They hailed the Forest Rights Act of 2006 as a historic law that seeks to correct injustice meted out to such tribes. “The land has been handed over after declaring it as a no-development zone,” the statement said, adding that such a measure will help block the entry of real estate mafia.

🔹 Demand Democracy in Bengaluru! 🔹

In the past, Karnataka has disastrously placed trust in task forces & vision groups consisting of elite personalities to imagine what is right for Bengaluru. The task forces so constituted were undemocratic and contrary to constitutional mandate. The new Siddaramaiah Chief Minister of Karnataka led Congress Government has an opportunity to do things right. However, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka DK Shivakumar has once again pushed for the formation of another elite task force constitutes of the rich, influential and the famous (essentially IT/BT leaders, real estate developers, retired bureaucrats, etc.) in building imaginaries that would shape the future of the metropolis.

Such interventions have always skewed public resources away from the needs and aspirations of the working classes & the poor to serve the interest of the rich. This is NOT what ಸಿದ್ದರಾಮಯ್ಯ 75 Siddaramaiah 75 Rahul Gandhi Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Rajeev Gowda Jairam Ramesh Randeep Singh Surjewala et al promised during elections campaign. They promised a government that would respect deep democracy and inclusive processes in governance.

Please sign this petition to support our demand to the Mr Shivakumar who is Bengaluru in charge minister that Bengaluru must be governed through a deeply democratic and inclusive process and the Metropolitan Planning Committee be constituted immediately. These are first steps to set right the rot that has set in into the metropolitan area’s administration, and which is causing disparities in development across Karnataka.
