Socio-Cultural Association, Indiranagar (SCA) and Nikhil Bharat Bango Sahityo Sammelan (NBBSS) jointly celebrated the 165th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore at the Purandar Bhaban, Indiranagar Sangeet Sabha hall, on 9th May.
The ceremony started with the lighting of lamp and speech by the chief guest, honourable Shri Adhip Chowdhury. This was followed by felicitation of the visiting dignitaries from other associations in Bangalore. We were honoured by the presence of the following dignitaries:
• Mr Sayandeb Bhattacharya – Distinguished Theatre Personality
• Ms Sanhita Ganguly - Cultural Lead of BARSHA & Sinjini Sarkar from Cultural team
• Ms Mita Dutta - Cultural Secretary, RT Nagar Cultural Trust
• Mr Ayon Saha - Sarathi Cultural Trust, Koramangla
• Mr Supriyo Batabyal – President, Prabaashee Association
• Mr Sandeep Shome – Vice Chairman, Bharatiyo Bangiyo Samaj
This was followed by a memorial program, to remember and pay respect to the SCA members who recently passed away, Mr S N Ghosh and Mr Manoj Mehta. Senior members from SCA family fondly remembered the departed souls and their contributions to SCA.
The program line-up was based on Kabiguru’s work. A song-recitation, “Abhisarer Alo” (The Light of the Tryst) Kabiguru’s immortal play “Dakghar” (The Post Office) and a dance drama based on Kabiguru’s poignant poem, “Pujarini” (The Worshipper).
All 3 programs, especially the drama “Dakghar” earned huge appreciation from the audience. The child artists Sriyanshi (Amal), Nesara (Sudha) and Aarav (Doi-wala) performed so brilliantly that nobody could believe this was the first time that they took part in a drama. Some serious talents there!
The program ended with an engaging discussion/debate on the relevance of Tagore in the modern days and times.
Here are some snippets from the program.
