On 22nd April 2026, I made a surprise visit to Mattan, Anantnag, to review the work of our dedicated volunteers at RECS Foundation. While their commitment remains commendable, I was deeply concerned to see the deteriorating condition of -Founwar Bagh(Fountain Bagh)—a place with immense potential as a tourist destination and a sustainable income-generation hub for local youth.
This site could beautifully showcase authentic Kashmiri handicrafts, premium saffron, and traditional dry fruits, creating opportunities for livelihoods while preserving our cultural heritage. It is difficult to understand why such a valuable asset has been overlooked by the Tourism Department.
During my visit, I also had the privilege of entering the Mandir परिसर . The arrangements there are truly praiseworthy. However, due to the bypass road diverting traffic, the footfall remains minimal. This not only affects the spiritual vibrancy of the place but also limits economic activity around it.
I strongly urge the concerned authorities to consider “widening and improving the Mandir access road”, ensuring better visibility and connectivity for travellers. Reviving such historic and scenic locations is essential to restoring the timeless charm of Kashmir and bringing its lost glory back on track.
Let us work together to preserve, promote, and revitalize these treasures for future generations
