On 23 May 2026, in convergence with the Agriculture Department, Kusdhowa Block, Government of Assam, a Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) demonstration for paddy was conducted at Chechapani, Kusdhowa. The resource person, Shri Joseph Tumung, Agriculture Extension Assistant, Chechapani, demonstrated the process in the field of Ms. Maratha Sangma, who cultivated Boro paddy as an intercrop in fruit orchards established under the NABARD-funded TRIBES Project implemented by Bosco Reach Out.

Around 20 farmers learned the innovative concept of Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE), a standard agricultural method used to scientifically estimate crop yield from a representative sample area of a field. It is widely used by governments, agricultural departments, insurance schemes like Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and researchers.

Bosco Reach Out conducted a one-day training programme on agronomic practices for farmers under the Azim Premji Foundation -funded project, Empowering Rural Farmers for Sustainable Development, at Umteli and Uzandonka, West Karbi Anglong district of Assam, on 22 and 23 May 2026, where around 140 farmers from different villages gained valuable knowledge and skills.

The programme aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in scientific and sustainable farming methods for improved productivity and livelihood opportunities. The sessions focused on integrating traditional agricultural knowledge with modern agronomic techniques to conserve soil, water, and biodiversity. Farmers were encouraged to adopt scientific farming practices and modern technologies to reduce production losses and improve farm efficiency. The training also highlighted the conservation and use of indigenous crops for nutritional security, climate resilience, and biodiversity preservation, while promoting better income opportunities for women and smallholder farming families.

Bosco Reach Out, with the support of the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, distributed start-up toolkits to 30 Pickle Making Technicians and 30 IFS–Organic Farmers after the successful completion of their intensive training in Pickle Making and Integrated Farming System–Organic Farming under the Inter-State Border Areas Development Programme. The distribution programme was held today, 22 May 2026 at Babukona and Harinkata Rabha villages in North Garo Hills district, Meghalaya, in the presence of Fr. Ignatius Gari, Shri Charansing Sangma, Village Headman of Babukona, and personnel from Bosco Reach Out.

Bosco Reach Out continues to provide services with the hope that community partners will start self-employment activities, generate income, and create livelihood opportunities within their communities in the near future.

Bosco Reach Out conducts various skill development training programmes for unemployed communities, especially youth, at its Agriculture Training Centre, Joropara, North Garo Hills district, Meghalaya.

Twenty-six farmers under the NABARD-funded TRIBES Project in Thrizino Block, West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh, successfully completed a two-day Educational Exposure Visit on 19–20 May 2026. The exposure visit aimed to help farmers gain practical knowledge on modern scientific methods of litchi cultivation, observe best practices in orchard management such as planting, pruning, irrigation, and nutrient management, and understand integrated pest and disease management techniques in litchi orchards. The farmers also interacted with scientists, experts, and progressive farmers for knowledge exchange and problem-solving. The visit encouraged the adoption of improved technologies to enhance productivity and farmers’ income, created awareness on government schemes and support services for horticulture development, and promoted entrepreneurial skills and horticulture-based livelihood opportunities among the farmers.

Bosco Reach Out, under the NABARD-funded project, Integrated Sustainable Homestead Farming, a training and demonstration on natural farming was organised today, 20 May 2026, at Hirapara, Kothakuthi, Goalpara district, in convergence with KVK Goalpara.

The programme aimed to promote a self-reliant, low-cost, and environmentally friendly food production system that supports the long-term needs of households without degrading natural resources or incurring additional costs.

The resource person, Smt. Mousumi Bhuyan, Horticulture SMS, KVK Dudhnoi, Goalpara, imparted valuable knowledge and practical insights to around 25 farmers participating in the project.

A two-day refresher training programme for beekeepers under the NABARD-funded TRIBES Project was successfully conducted on 18 and 19 May 2026 at Deulguri Singijani, Kushdhowa Block, Goalpara district, Assam. The resource person, Shri Naba Mahanta, Master Trainer, imparted practical knowledge and skills through live demonstrations on scientific beekeeping practices and quality honey production.

Around 50 beekeepers participated in the training and enhanced their understanding of improved beekeeping techniques for better colony management and higher-quality honey harvests. The programme also encouraged sustainable livelihood development among rural farmers and beekeepers.

Bosco Reach Out (BRO) conducted a farmers’ training programme on 11 May 2026 at the Project Office, Barbaruah, and on 14 May 2026 at Nakhat, Khowang, in Dibrugarh district for the farmers participating in the NABARD - National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development-funded project.

Around 50 farmers attended the programme and gained knowledge on the scientific cultivation and management of Kesseru (host plant) for sustainable Eri sericulture. The participants were also sensitized on the functioning and importance of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

A Farmers’ Training and Demonstration Programme along with a Project Implementation and Monitoring Committee (PIMC) meeting was held at the Bosco Reach Out Project Office, Chechapani Part-III, on 06 May 2026 under the NABARD-funded TRIBES project implemented in Kushdhowa Block, Goalpara district of Assam.

The programme was conducted in the presence of Shri Kanchanmoni Gohain, DDM, NABARD Goalpara; Dr. Santosh Kumar Baisya, Head Senior Scientist, KVK Dudhnoi; Shri Debojit Das, Agriculture Development Officer, Department of Agriculture, Assam Kushdhowa Block; Shri Joseph Tumung, Agriculture Extension Assistant, Department of Agriculture, Assam Chechapani; members of Project Level Tribal Development Committee; and 22 participating farmers of the project.

The training sessions focused on enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills in legume intercropping, intercultural operations, scientific and measured fertilizer application, soil health management and soil testing, natural farming practices, and vermicompost preparation. The programme provided valuable technical guidance to the farmers for promoting sustainable and improved agricultural practices in the region.

Bosco Reach Out is conducting a Skill Training Programme on Carpentry and Lead Sofa Making (Wooden Furniture) under the Skill Meghalaya Project, with the support of the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), at Bosco Reach Out (Agriculture Training Centre), Joropara-Bajengdoba, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

The objective of this programme is to equip youth with relevant knowledge and practical skills in wooden furniture making, including handling wood, designing, and finishing techniques. It also aims to promote self-employment and create livelihood opportunities within their communities.

Trainees are actively engaged and are gaining hands-on experience in their respective domains. The programme has shown promising results, with participants demonstrating strong interest and enthusiasm in learning and adopting new skills.
