Labour Codes bring together 29 existing laws into four comprehensive, modern frameworks—creating clarity, equality, and stronger protection for every worker across the country. ⚖️
✨ 1️⃣ Code on Wages, 2019

Replaces four major laws including Minimum Wages Act (1948) & Payment of Wages Act (1936).

Ensures minimum wages for all employees, prohibits gender-based discrimination (including transgender persons), and mandates timely payment of wages without unauthorized deductions.

✨ 2️⃣ Industrial Relations Code, 2020

Combines three key laws like the Trade Union Act (1926) and Industrial Disputes Act (1947).

Introduces Fixed Term Employment with full benefits, raises the threshold for layoffs/closures to 300 workers, and expands the definition of “worker” to include journalists, sales staff & supervisors earning up to ₹18,000.

✨ 3️⃣ Code on Social Security, 2020

Merges nine major welfare laws such as the Employees’ Compensation Act (1923) and Maternity Benefit Act (1961).

Extends social security to all workers, including gig & platform workers, and expands ESIC coverage nationwide, without the need for “notified areas.”

✨ 4️⃣ Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code, 2020

Combines 13 laws including the Factories Act (1948), Mines Act (1952) & Plantation Labour Act (1951).

Mandates free annual health check-ups for workers above 40, and allows the government to enforce safety rules even on single-employee hazardous establishments.

Together, these four codes aim to build a simplified, transparent, worker-centric labour system—ensuring dignity, protection, and fairness for India’s diverse workforce. 🛠️📘
