Birthday Tribute to Madam Uma Handa
Founder, Clinical Nursing Research Society (CNRS)

Dear Madam Uma Handa,

On behalf of the Clinical Nursing Research Society and the entire nursing fraternity, it is with great joy and deep respect that I extend our warmest wishes to you on your birthday.

Today, we not only celebrate another year of your life, but we also honour the profound and lasting impact you have made on the nursing profession in India and beyond. As the visionary founder of the Clinical Nursing Research Society, your foresight, passion, and commitment laid the cornerstone for an organization that continues to elevate the standards of nursing research and evidence-based practice in our country.

Your journey in nursing has been one of relentless dedication to excellenceβ€”marked by intellectual rigour, compassion for patients, and an unwavering belief in the power of research to transform care. You have inspired generations of nurses to think critically, inquire deeply, and uphold the highest ethical standards in both clinical and academic settings.

What sets you apart as a leader is not just your pioneering achievements, but also your personal qualitiesβ€”your humility, grace, and genuine interest in nurturing young talent. You have always led by example, showing us that leadership in nursing is not about hierarchy, but about service, scholarship, and mentorship.

Your ability to build collaborative networks, both nationally and internationally, has opened new avenues for professional growth for many of us. The CNRS stands today as a testament to your visionβ€”a thriving platform for nurse researchers, scholars, and clinicians to come together in pursuit of excellence and innovation.

As we celebrate you today, we are reminded of the strength, wisdom, and courage you embody. Thank you for being a beacon of light and a guiding force in the nursing community.

May this year bring you continued good health, happiness, and the satisfaction of knowing that your legacy will inspire generations to come.

With heartfelt wishes and admiration,
Clinical Nursing Research Society

International Nurses Day 2025 Message
From the President of the Clinical Nursing Research Society

Dear Respected Nursing Colleagues,

On this International Nurses Day, I extend warm greetings and heartfelt appreciation to every nurse around the world. Today, we celebrate our invaluable contributions to healthcare, our compassion in service, and our steadfast commitment to humanity.

This year, the WHO’s latest report, State of the World’s Nursing 2025, reflects a global nursing workforce now numbering 29.8 million. While this growth is encouraging, deep inequalities remain. More than 60% of the global shortfall in nurses affects countries jeopardizing efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

To address these critical gaps, the WHO outlines seven strategic actions for governments and stakeholders:

1. Strengthen data on the nursing workforce through regular, high-quality national reporting.

2. Expand the number of nurse graduates to meet national needs.

3. Create new nursing jobs, particularly in primary health care and community settings.

4. Ensure decent working conditions, including fair pay, protection, and professional respect.

5. Address inequities in distribution of nurses within and across countries.

6. Strengthen nursing leadership, including in health policy, planning, and decision-making.

7. Invest in advanced education and professional development to equip nurses for evolving health challenges.

As President of the Clinical Nursing Research Society, I urge all of us to advocate for the implementation of these strategies. Let us use our collective voice to shape systems that value, invest in, and empower nurses as agents of change.

To all nursesβ€”our compassion heals, our skill saves lives, and your presence brings hope. Deepest appreciation for all that you do.

Warm regards,
Dr. Latha Venkatesan
President, Clinical Nursing Research Society.
