SLD Round Up!

The holidays are over, and we wasted no time getting back to service. From food packing and English fairs to school renovations and youth activities, it was a busy week across Israel.

**Galgal Chozer, Netivot**
30 volunteers from the UK peeled around 1,000 cabbages and packed food parcels for families in need, alongside a talk from Clarisse.

**Shahar Eshkol Elementary School**
US volunteers led an English activity fair for grades 1–6, using games and conversation to practice English. The students were already asking when the next group would visit!

**Sivuv Sheni, Lod**
30 volunteers aged 50+ helped organize the second-hand shop, switching summer clothes for winter stock and learning about the shop’s story.

**Itamar School, Rishon LeZion**
Volunteers brought English to life through an interactive activity fair for students.

**Rimon School, Lod**
30 Birthright volunteers painted and renovated classrooms, gardened, made art, joined a music lesson, and spent time with students at this school for children with special needs, which serves both Arab and Jewish communities. One volunteer was so inspired that she arranged to return on her next visit to Israel!

**Charna Youth Center**
Netzer participants marked the end of their program with a farewell show alongside the young people they’d been volunteering with, complete with music, high-fives, and hugs.

**Elifelet Middle School**
US Taglit volunteers led English activities for 7th and 8th graders, keeping things going even through a power outage!

**Philosophical Farm**
Volunteers from Argentina spent the day exploring a unique setting for service and learning with educator Talia.

**Olim Shalav**
The ninth cohort launched with participants from seven countries: Argentina, Russia, Canada, the US, France, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

A busy week, plenty of new connections, and lots of ways to get involved.

Yahel is looking for a full-time Recruitment Manager for the Yahel Social Change Fellowship, our nine-month service-learning program for young adults (22–30) living and volunteering in Lod, Haifa, and Rishon LeZion.

You'll own the full journey, from the first time a prospective fellow hears about Yahel to the day they land in Israel.

We're looking for:
- 2–3+ years in recruitment, admissions, marketing, or sales (Israel programs, Jewish orgs, or higher ed a plus)
- Native-level English (strong Hebrew preferred)
- Comfort connecting with young adults and familiarity with the North American and global Jewish landscape
- Strong organization and follow-through, plus comfort owning an enrollment target
- Immediate start. Some evenings and one US trip a year.

Getting to know a community starts with getting to know its people, stories, and traditions.

In Rishon LeZion, our fellows joined members of the local Ethiopian community for a traditional Bunna coffee ceremony. They heard Batel share her story, experienced Ethiopian coffee culture, and connected through food, music, and dance.

As the fellows begin volunteering alongside the Ethiopian community in Rishon, these moments are an important part of learning about the people they’ll be working with and building relationships that go beyond their service placements.

Because meaningful community work starts with getting to know the community itself.

Jerusalem is a city you can spend a lifetime trying to understand.

As part of orientation month, our fellows spent the day exploring the Old City, visiting the Kotel, Dome of the Rock, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

We begin the fellowship with experiences like this because understanding Israel means engaging with its history, religions, communities, and complexity from the very start. The outing offered a deeper look at why Jerusalem holds such profound meaning for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the many stories that exist within one small space.

A lot to take in. A lot more to keep learning about.
