My name is Ahmad Abu Sneineh. I left school in the 9th grade because I had to help my family and now I work at a cafe in Hebron.
I have run the kitchen at the cafe for five years, especially the Sh**ha, so when people want to drink something or smoke Sh**ha they come to me.
Most of the drinks people order here are tea and coffee, in addition to Sh**ha. People come here to relax after a long day of work and we give them the best atmosphere to relax.
In my free time I like to go for a walk and work out at the gym, and I like to do this alone. It’s my way to disconnect and relax. I would like to travel the world and learn about other cultures. I have only traveled to Jordan before but that’s it.
The people of Hebron are very hospitable and courageous so I would like to invite people to visit our city and get to know the culture here.

My name is Shadi Al Atrash, I am married with three sons and two daughters. I have a diploma in Computer Network Engineering at Palestine Polytechnic University in Hebron and I have managed a cafe for 16 years.
I worked in my major for a short time with a company in the city but the company went bankrupt so I had to leave.
After the company went bankrupt I did different jobs, specifically in restaurants and cafes. Then I moved to the cafe where I work now. Honestly, if i find a better job i would take it but the lack of opportunities in Palestine is making it hard to find your dream job.
In my free time I also come to the cafe here with my friends to play backgammon (Shish Besh). You would find us on one of the tables here any day at any time.
My dream is to travel to discover different cultures and meet people.

My name is Yahya Al Rajabi. I am married with two daughters and three sons, and I have been selling juice for 14 years.
I started selling juice because it was my father’s job. I learnt it from him. We sell different kinds of juice in the city centre of Hebron.
We sell date, carob, almond, hibiscus, and lemon juice. The busiest season when people buy from us is the summer because the weather is hot here.
My dad started making juice after the Israeli army shut down the fruit market in 2000, so he decided to change his job to be able to afford life expenses for his family.
One of the best seasons for us is also Ramadan, people drink juice everyday at Iftar time, before sunset you would see a big line of people waiting to get juice and go home.
In my free time I like to relax with my playstation at home or just go out with friends.

My name is Hussam Al Bakri, I am married with a son and a daughter, and I have a shop selling spices and herbs in the city centre of Hebron.
I wanted to study medicine in 1993 but due to my family’s difficult financial situation at that time, I started this job and moved to this shop three months ago. I learnt this profession through a man in Hebron city.
Spices and herbs are very important for people because it’s part of most meals people cook at home, specifically in Hebron because it's the city of food.
Here we are known for cooking, Mansaf and Qedra spices are the ones people most like to buy. We import raw spices from India, China, Guatemala and Latin America and we make it here.
I stopped working in this business for a year and half and said I would never go back to it because I was bored of it. Then I worked with my family in the clothing business but I felt lost, so I decided to return to my original job because here I am in charge.
My job is nice and it has creativity because I can create new mixtures that no one else has.
Hebron is famous for building stones and many countries around the world buy stones from Hebron city.

My name is Noor Ashour. I finished high school and went to university to study accounting, then I left after one semester. I have been married for almost five years and I own a shoe store in Hebron’s city centre.
My family has owned a shoe factory here in the city since the 90s, Hebron is a known city for shoe making so I have been working in this store since 2014.
In our factory we produce all kinds of shoes made from original leather, so in my store you only find shoes made in Hebron city and always with a high quality and good prices.
I myself worked in making shoes. They said in the past that shoe makers used to make very good money because at that time importing from outside wasn’t a big thing.
Customers these days look for cheap prices so a lot would prefer to buy imported shoes. The shoe business was affected a lot in the past 20 years because of imports from China.
I like to watch football in my free time. I love sports in general so my favourite nights are the ones of the European Champions League. I enjoy these nights a lot.

My name is Muneer Nassar, I am married with three sons and two daughters, and I have a shoe store in the city centre of Hebron.
I left school in the 10th grade and started working. I did different jobs in my life and today I have my own store where I sell clothes and shoes.
Fifteen years ago I used to only sell shoes at my shop but then I decided to add clothes to my collection so when customers come to buy they find everything here. We import clothes and shoes from Turkey and also buy goods from businesses in Hebron and Nablus.
These days the business is bad due to the difficult economical situation because of the war, so people only buy clothes and shoes when they really need it otherwise they wouldn’t come. Before the war business was very good.
Hebron market depends a lot on customers who come from outside the city. For example on Saturdays the market is more active due to customers that come from Jerusalem, Jaffa, Haifa and other places.
In my free time I like to play football with friends. I am a fan of Real Madrid so I like to watch all their games in LaLiga and the Champions League. My dream is to once attend a game in the Bernabeu stadium.

My name is Ramadan Dweik. I study mechatronics engineering at Palestine polytechnic university in Hebron, and will graduate in two years.
I have worked with my father in a shop fixing shoes and bags for 10 years. I learnt this from my father, who has spent 25 years in this business, to help him and to afford my university fees.
I also did this job because not many people do it anymore in the city, so my goal was to preserve this profession in addition to helping my family with their living expenses. This job is considered one of the authentic professions in the city of Hebron.
The most common item people fix here is shoes, especially original and good quality shoes, because they can be expensive so people don’t want to throw them away.
The thing I love about my job is that I can fix torn items and make them new again.
I like to read books in my free time in addition to learning programming. I want people to know that Hebron is an industrial city and the people of Hebron can make products you want.

My name is Jalal Dweik, I am married with three sons and a daughter, and I work as a tailor.
I have worked as a tailor for almost 30 years and I have been in this shop for 10 years. I worked as a tailor until the second Intifada in 2000 then I stopped because work was badly affected, so I worked selling clothes. Then the clothing business was also badly affected, so I decided to return to being a tailor again 10 years ago.
I learnt tailoring on my own without training or anything. Many people come to me for tailored clothes because they like to wear special clothes, especially women for their wedding dresses.
They say Khalili people can make anything, hardships create creativity so we make good quality clothes with very good prices that people can afford.
I love birds and planting. I can say these two are my hobbies. When I am not working you can find me in my land or with the birds I have.

My name is Sameer Al Natsha. I am married, and have two daughters and two sons. My job is to roam the city with my little electric car, selling sweets to people.
I started this small business in 2015, and I sell various kinds of sweets, such as Qarioush, Balouza, Bein Narin, and more.
I started this business because the previous jobs I had weren’t successful, so I decided to sell sweets because people keep buying them.
My mother taught me how to make sweets, so she and I cook them together, and we have been able to cover the family's living expenses.
I pay a lot of attention to my family and work, so I don't go out much. I prefer to spend my free time with my family. You can call me a family man.
People love buying sweets, but unfortunately, my sales have reduced to 50% due to the war. I hope this changes very soon.
I would like to invite people to come to Hebron and taste the sweets we make. You can find me in the streets of the city with my lovely electric car.

My name is Hussam Al Mohtaseb. I am studying accounting and have been working with my father in our shop in the old city for 12 years. He opened it 20 years ago.
We sell ceramics, copper and olive wood products, Kufiyyas, bracelets and necklaces. Our business depends on tourists who come to visit the old city.
I like this job a lot, so I would like to continue doing it. It would be nice to expand the business beyond working in accounting in the future.
Due to the war, we don’t have customers visiting the old city, but still, we will never stop opening our store's doors. This is our Sumoud - resilience - for our land.
I hope more people visit us and buy from the shops here to support shopkeepers, so they aren't forced to close their businesses.

My name is Abeer Osaile. I hold a bachelor's in computer business and management from Cambridge University and a Master's of Business Administration from Egypt. I will start my PhD in children's literature very soon. I am the owner of the only bookshop in the old city of Hebron.
I opened my bookshop here in the old city four years ago because it was my childhood dream to have my own project. I am in love with ancient and historical places. The old city's stones tell the story of our history and ancestors.
I organise different activities in my bookshop for children and women, such as reading stories for kids four times a month, psychological release sessions for women living in the H2 area, book signings by different writers, events about the city's history, and I host projects here for associations.
For a year and a half, I have been using storytelling as therapy, which has been very important. I noticed children's response to this therapy is very positive, and it helps them talk about things that disturb them. I carefully choose the stories I read to them to help them release the stress they have.
You would see kids coming to the bookshop every day, asking when the next session would be, or simply coming to read a book. The bookshop became their safe space.
My message to readers of this story is to come and discover the city's history.

My name is Sameer Jamjoum, I am 77 years old, and I have a shop in the old city of Hebron.
I opened my shop here almost 40 years ago, and I am still surviving here.
I sell various local food products made without preservatives, such as Dibs, Labaneh, Cheese, sheep butter, and Malban.
Dibs and Malban are molasses made from grape syrup. We cook the syrup for long hours- you'll only find it in Hebron! We have customers from all over Palestine who specifically buy these products.
People from Hebron, young and old, still buy and eat local food products; however, the younger generation is consuming more processed foods.
Old people still have a small cup of Dibs every day, unlike the younger generation. It warms you up in wintertime and gives you energy.
Although business is bad here, I still encourage my sons to come to the shop and work with me; we will never stop opening our shop here. During the second Intifada, I used to sit in front of my shop during curfew hours. Although it was dangerous, I didn’t care; I didn't want to lose my shop.
I would like to invite people to come and try the local food products in my shop. I am sure you would love it.
