يدعوكم مجلس الخيال في القدس للمشاركة في اللقاء الأول لإطلاق مشروع: {متحفُ السِّحر}

وهو مشروع بحثي وثقافي يهدف إلى توثيق ودراسة المعتقدات والطقوس والممارسات السِّحرية في التراث الشعبي الفلسطيني، بوصفها جزءًا من تاريخنا الثقافي والاجتماعي.

نسعى معًا إلى بناء مساحة حيّة تُعنى بجمع:
• المقتنيات الموروثة
• المخطوطات والوثائق
• الروايات الشفوية
• القصص العائلية التي تحفظ ذاكرة هذا الإرث.

كما نرحّب بمشاركة:
الباحثين والباحثات، الفنانين والفنانات، المصممين والمصممات، العاملين والعاملات في مجالات الثقافة والمتاحف، المتطوعين والمتطوعات، والمؤسسات الثقافية، وكل من يرغب في الإسهام في هذا المشروع.

📌 في هذا اللقاء سنستعرض المراحل الثلاث الأولى للمشروع، ونطمح إلى الاستماع إلى آرائكم، ومقترحاتكم، ودعمكم في تطوير هذه المبادرة.

Join us in founding the | Museum of Magic | in Palestine, a research and cultural initiative dedicated to documenting and studying the beliefs, rituals, and magical practices embedded in Palestinian folk tradition as an integral part of our social and cultural history.

We are building a living archive of inherited objects, manuscripts, documents, amulets, ritual vessels, oral histories, and family stories that preserve this remarkable heritage. We also welcome researchers, designers, volunteers, cultural institutions, and anyone who wishes to contribute to the project.

For now, the museum exists as a virtual platform while we lay the foundations for its future. The project does not promote magical practices; rather, it preserves and examines them as part of Palestine’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage through historical, anthropological, and cultural research.

٠٠ قيـلولة أيـلول٠٠

ومن رأى في منامه…
أننا ندعوه، فليلبِّ النداء.

إلى المُحرِّكين والمُحرِّكات،

ندعوكم للانضمام إلى رحلتنا في إحياء تراثنا العربي والإسلامي في تأويل الأحلام، واستكشاف ما يحمله من رموز ودلالات، حيث يلتقي الماضي بالحاضر، والتأويل بالتحريك، ضمن الموسم الأول من {قيلولة أيلول}، والذي يتخذ من أهوال الحرب ثيمةً له لهذا العام.

كانت الأحلامُ عند العربِ حديقةً من الرموز، فالماءُ حياة، والنارُ فتنة، والطيرانُ سفر. قدّسوا "الرؤيا الصالحة" ورأوا فيها بشارةً تُطمئن القلوب، لكنهم وضعوا حدودًا فاصلة بين التأويل والبصيرة، مؤكدين أن الحلم إشارةٌ لا أمر، وبشارةٌ لا قدرٌ محتوم.

📩 تواصلوا معنا لتلقّي الحُلم، ثم حوّلوا تأويله إلى عمل تحريكي قصير لا يتجاوز 10 ثوانٍ.

ونسير في خدمة خيالنا.

يصادف اليوم الذكرى السنوية الحادية عشرة لتأسيس مجلس الخيال في القدس، ومع ذلك، لا نرى في العدّ ما يستدعي احتفالًا، فقد كان احتفالنا الأجمل معكم، يوم جابت نسختنا الإنجليزية من أنس الخفيّ الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في طريقها للعالم، وكانت تلك الجولة هديتنا للسنوية الحادية عشرة. وما كان لها أن تكتمل لولاكم ودعمكم الرائع، فشكرًا لكم من أعماقنا.

ولمن انتظر التمّوزيّة،
مدينون لكم باعتذار، ونودّ أن نبلغكم، آسفين، بأن الموسم الماضي كان آخر مواسم التمّوزيّة، حتى إشعارٍ آخر.

وتذكروا أنّ الخيال لا يطوي أبوابه، بل يبدّل مداخله، وما ننسجه لكم الآن يحتاج قليلًا من الصبر.

قريبًا…
سنفتح بابًا جديدًا،

Eleven Years…

And still, we remain devoted to the service of our imagination.

Today marks the 11th anniversary of The Fiction Council. Yet we see no reason to celebrate the passing of years, for our truest celebration was the journey we shared with you as the English edition of Hidden Companions traveled across the United States and to the world. That journey was our gift to this eleventh year, and it would never have been complete without you and your amazing support. For that, you have our deepest gratitude.

To those who have been waiting for the Al-Tammuzieh season,

We owe you an apology for its absence this year, and we wish to let you know that last season was the final season, until further notice.

For imagination never closes its doors, it simply opens new ones. What we are weaving now asks only for a little patience.

Soon…
A new door will open,
and with it, a new season of imagination will begin.

As our 7-city journey comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the generative string of conversations that took place across our three East Coast stops: Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia.

From mapping the jinn and the Old City of Jerusalem with Sabreen Taha | صابرين طه at Lost City Books, to exploring folklore and superstition with leena aboutaleb at Red Emma's, to a thoughtful conversation with Mai Eltahir at Ulises on the worlds and realms beyond the visible. Each conversation was further enriched by the stories, memories, and reflections shared by those who joined us.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this tour both possible and meaningful: to our hosts, collaborators, friends, supporters… And thank you to all who purchased the book so far. We leave carrying an encouraging reminder of the many paths these stories will travel through, and the glimpse of the impact on generations of storytellers to come. Thank you all for witnessing this ambitious, yet rewarding journey with us.

Before Ahmad returns to Jerusalem, join us one last time in New York on Thursday, June 25, from 3–6 PM, at the EFA RBPMW. Come say hello, say goodbye, and hear what new stories have emerged along the way.

Words can’t express how magical our time in Detroit was!

Our stop began at 27th Letter Books , where readers gathered with Ahmad Nabil , Liane Al Ghusain 🇵🇸🇰🇼 ليان الغصين, jenna hamed and Fatema Alhashemi . فاطمة الهاشمي for an evening of conversation that wandered through folklore, memory, spirituality, and the enduring power of storytelling. As a recurring theme of this tour, the room became a space where people connected the stories of Jerusalem’s jinn to their own cultural traditions, family histories, and encounters with the unseen. Our heartfelt thanks to Drew and the entire 27th Letter Books crew for welcoming us so generously and creating such a thoughtful space for these conversations to unfold.

The journey culminated at Mother of Pearl Studio with a beautiful garden gathering marking the launch of The Fiction Council mural. As the new moon emerged and the night settled into its darkest hour, friends old and new gathered around a bonfire to share jinn stories, food, laughter, and reflections beneath the stars. Painted by the talented Sultan Sign Co., the mural features TFC’s iconic Sadaniel سدن إيل—a guardian carrying a book in one hand and a paintbrush in the other, symbolizing the literary and artistic tools through which stories are preserved, renewed, and carried into the future. For one evening, it felt as though the jinn of Jerusalem had found a home in Detroit.

Our deepest thanks to Bree, Kevin, and the entire Mother of Pearl Studio community for their warmth, generosity, and care throughout our stay. Detroit embraced us with extraordinary hospitality, and we leave feeling grateful for every conversation, every story shared, and every new connection made.

As we continue with our tour along the East Coast, we carry Detroit’s spirit with us.

This Sunday June 14, as the new moon emerges, and on the darkest night of the month, Bree and Kevin of the local flower farm, Mother of Pearl Studio, will host an evening of frolicking in the garden, sharing jinn stories over a bonfire, and snacking on locally made eats to mark the launch of The Fiction Council mural!

The mural is of TFC’s logo featuring the iconic Sadaniel سدن إيل, whose name signifies the fusion of two elements: Sadan, derived from the Arabic sādin, the keeper of a sacred sanctuary; and Īl, a Semitic suffix reminiscent of angelic names, lending the creature an aura of antiquity and transcendence. In one hand, Sadaniel carries a book; in the other, a paintbrush. Together they signify the literary and artistic instruments through which TFC pursues its vision. They are at once the means of creation and the fruits of imagination; symbols of the enduring effort to preserve, renew, and carry forward the life of myth into the future.

This was graciously and skillfully painted by the talented Sultan Sign Co. on the side of Mother of Pearl Studio, to commemorate TFC founder, Ahmad Nabil’s time in Detroit, where he brought the jinn of Jerusalem with him!

This will be the final event in Detroit on the Hidden Companions 2026 U.S. Tour; which is free & open to the public. We’re so grateful to Bree, Kevin and their neighborhood crew for such being such warm and inviting hosts during our stay here.

The next stop is… Baltimore!

How does one even begin to research the paranormal in a place like Jerusalem? What are the responsibilities one would hold? What existing mythologies and legends inform traditional forms of Palestinian storytelling? How are paranormal stories part of Palestine’s intangible heritage?
Leena Aboutaleb will be in conversation with Ahmad Nabil at Red Emma’s on June 17th at 7pm to discuss all these questions and more, marking launch of the English Translation of Hidden Companions, Paranormals from the Old City of Jerusalem. Translator Fatema Alhasemi will be in attendance to discuss her process of translating the book into english, alongside editor and facilitator, Jenna Hamed.

This past week, our journey through the U.S. continued, where each event brought us deeper into the ongoing discussion around Palestinian storytelling, memory, and cultural heritage. In Los Angeles at Jackson Market , Rolla Selbak (رولا سلباق) walked us through layers of memory, legends, and creative practice. came alive with randa jarrar in conversation with Ahmad Nabil, accompanied by animated readings from the book by adam elara (آدم) , Farah Marwan , and Dani Marzouca. At Village Well Books & Coffee , under the thoughtful guidance of our generous LA host Emily Rose D , we found spaces for mutual reflection, collective memory and reading.

In Chicago, we delved into the connections between jinn stories and spiritual practice with Ahmed Jitan at Pilsen Community Books, where a full room of eager listeners were making world-wide connections with their own cultural backgrounds and mystic beliefs. The Chicago leg culminated with Ahmad Nabil’s narrated sonic performance, “Mother, the Hyenas Are Tearing Into My Voice” at Solidarity Studios , hosted by Ahmad . Between LA and Chicago, each dialogue resonated deeply for all who participated and witnessed, making every stop a memorable step on our journey touring the English translation of Hidden Companions: Paranormals from the Old City of Jerusalem.

We eagerly anticipate what Detroit and the East Coast events will bring next!
