Nechemia Spiegel was born in Satmar, Hungary in 1928. He managed to reach pre-state Israel in 1944 and joined the Jewish Brigade. He later fought for Israel's independence, but tragically fell 2 days before the State of Israel was declared. To learn more about this heroic young man, please see here:

In preparation for Passover 5706 (1946), Rabbi Shimon Kempler, a survivor of the Bochnia Ghetto, published an emotional and moving article on the essence of the holiday of freedom. The bold lines were originally published in Yiddish in the newspaper “Undzer Shtimeh” (Our Voice) – a Holocaust Survivor publication published in Bergen-Belsen, and a copy of which is preserved in the Ganzach Kiddush Hashem archive. Ganzach Kiddush Hashem was recently honoured to host a delegation of American rabbis. During the gathering, we discussed engaging audiences in commemorating Jewish history, with an emphasis on the heroism of Holocaust survivors and victims. Several prominent rabbinical and political figures were present, including but not limited to the posek (rabbinical decisor), Rabbi Asher Weiss; Rabbi Israel Meir Lau, Holocaust survivor, Chairman of our Presidency Council, and former chief rabbi of Israel; and Mr. Avi Ganon, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
