Golly fishing, a Cub year highlight!

*We had a fantastic night with the Cubs Golly Fishing! 🦀*

Huge thanks to all the Cubs who came down to the bridge. The crabs were biting and the craic was mighty. Lines in, nets ready, and plenty of “I got one!” shouts all evening.

*Where did “Golly Fishing” come from?*
Nobody knows for sure, but “golly” is old Irish slang for a shore crab. Some say it came from “gollóg” meaning a little round thing. Others reckon it’s just what Dublin kids have called it for generations. Either way, it’s been a rite of passage at the seaside for over 100 years — string, bacon, and a bucket. No fancy gear needed.

The beavers had a lovely evening getting out and about following the golly trail!
They learned bits of information about water safety while out and tried figure of 8 knots when back in the lodge.
