Bungoma Outreach

Bungoma Outreach We are a group of 30 committed volunteers, united by a shared belief in the power of community and the drive to create meaningful change.

Bungoma Outreach Project |
Empowering communities in Bungoma, Kenya by constructing a safe home for teen mums, renovating school roofs and floors, expanding access to clean water, and supporting sustainable local farming initiatives. Though we come from different walks of life, weโ€™re connected by one purpose: to stand in solidarity with the people of Bungoma County, Kenya. This October, weโ€™ll make

the journey โ€” not as outsiders offering solutions, but as partners ready to listen, learn, and work side by side. Together with local communities, weโ€™ll support teenage mothers, orphaned children, and schoolchildren facing real and urgent challenges. Our mission is simple: to make a real difference. Through this project, we will:

๐Ÿ  Help build safe, dignified housing for young mothers.
๐Ÿ›  Renovate orphanages and schools in need of repair.
๐Ÿšฟ Provide clean drinking water and sanitation through water tanks.
๐Ÿงธ Create safe play spaces and cribs so young mums can focus on learning.
๐ŸŒฑ Support local farming initiatives that empower long-term change. This page will be our space to share updates, fundraising goals, stories, and milestones. Weโ€™d love for you to join us, cheer us on, support us, sponsor us, and participate in this project.

๐Ÿซถ Change happens when communities lift each other โ€” letโ€™s rise together.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Follow us to keep up with the journey. Comment, share, and help us spread the word!

๐Ÿ‘Meet Trish.

Trish is married to Kieron and is a proud mum to three children, Sam, Katie and Annabel. Life is busy, but she loves making time for travelling, concerts and shows, baking, walking, horse racing, eating out, and the gym too, on a good day.๐Ÿ˜

Together with her husband Kieron, Trish has a commercial auction company, where she works across projects and accounts, keeping everything moving behind the scenes.

When asked why she wanted to be part of the Bungoma Outreach Project, Trish summed it up beautifully: why wouldnโ€™t you? It is such an amazing experience, and to see the happy faces of the children makes it all so worthwhile.

Trish enjoyed her first trip to Bungoma so much that she is already looking forward to returning in 2027. She is excited to be part of the Bungoma team again, to reconnect with the community, and to continue supporting the incredible work being done there.

Her warmth, energy and willingness to get involved will be such a great addition to the group!

We are delighted to have Trish on board, bringing her kindness, good humour and generous spirit to Bungoma. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

Meet Gary Doran.

Gary is married to Nicola and is a proud dad to two beautiful girls, Amy and Abbie. He works as a block layer with fellow volunteer Peter at Doran and Jones Blocklaying, bringing valuable hands-on skills that will be a huge help in Bungoma.

Outside of work, Gary plays Over 35s soccer with Fastnet Rovers, recently celebrating a brilliant Shield final win. He also spent three years coaching underage girlsโ€™ soccer, and when heโ€™s not playing or coaching, youโ€™ll usually find him supporting Amy and Abbie in gymnastics, soccer and GAA ๐Ÿซถ

In his own words, Gary says he was lucky to be part of the 2025 Bungoma Outreach Project, and after his wonderful experience there, he jumped at the opportunity to return.

For Gary, the chance to live and work once again alongside the beautiful community of Bungoma is something very special. He is looking forward to helping continue the work already started and playing his part in changing lives for the better, for a long time to come.

We are delighted to have Gary back on board, bringing his skills, experience, kindness, laughter and great team spirit to Bungoma. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

Meet Rosie Keary, one of the founding members of the Bungoma Outreach Project and a very special part of our Bungoma family.

Rosie is delighted to be part of the Bungoma team for the second year, helping to drive a project that continues to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of the communities we support.

Rosie is married to Patrick and is a proud mum to three children, Bella, Killian and MJ. Life is busy and usually involves travelling around the country cheering them on in their various sporting activities - something she wouldnโ€™t change for the world.

When she does get a little time for herself, Rosie loves running and spinning, and she really values spending quality time with her family and friends.

Rosie feels incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to Bungoma alongside a number of her family members and close friends. For her, being involved in this project has been a truly rewarding experience, and she is so proud of what has been achieved together so far.

As a founding member, Rosie has given so much of her time, energy and heart to helping shape the Bungoma Outreach Project. Her kindness, determination and belief in the project continue to inspire everyone around her.

The dedication, teamwork and impact of the Bungoma programme mean so much to Rosie, and she is already looking forward to returning in February 2027 to build on everything that has been accomplished.

We are incredibly grateful to have Rosie as part of this very special team ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

Meet David Currid

David runs his own successful business, DC Plumbing & Heating Ltd., and is based in Ballingly, Wellingtonbridge, where he lives with his wife Majella and their two children, TJ and Ellie.

A proud and very active member of Bannow-Ballymitty GAA Club, David is currently coaching the minor team and is also a selector with the 2026 menโ€™s football team. He played for many years on the first teams in both hurling and football and was part of the brilliant 2003 team that won the double.

Still going strong at 45 years young, David continues to line out for the Junior B team and is hoping for one more season - especially if it means getting to play alongside his son TJ next year๐Ÿ™Œ
Outside of work and GAA, David enjoys skiing, golf, racing, and the odd trip abroad. His trip to Kenya will certainly be another adventure, but one with a very special purpose.

David had always said he would love to do something like this, and after hearing from friends who travelled last year, he knew the Bungoma Outreach Project was something he wanted to be part of. So when Rosie Keary asked if he was still interested and mentioned that a plumber would be very welcome, David was more than happy to jump on board.

Thank you, David, for giving your time, skills, and heart to this project. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

Meet Samantha Walsh

Sam is a mom to two fantastic kids, Odin and Alannah, and she absolutely loves her job as a primary school teacher in Mayglass National School. With her caring nature, energy, and natural way with children, Sam is sure to bring plenty of warmth, fun, and kindness to Bungoma!

Outside of the classroom, Sam loves taking part in shows, singing, music, and anything that involves a bit of fun, laughter, and joy. We already know sheโ€™ll bring that same sparkle with her to Bungoma - and we canโ€™t wait for Sam to share her love of song and music with the children there.

Volunteering abroad has always been a dream of Samโ€™s, so when she heard about the opportunity to travel with the Bungoma Outreach Project, she got in touch straight away. She is so excited to be part of this amazing project, to give her time, share her kindness, and play her part in making a real difference.

Thank you, Sam, for giving your time, skills, and heart to this project. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

Meet Martin Monaghan
Martin is 53, married to Edel, and has two grown-up sons. When heโ€™s not working, youโ€™ll usually find him out running or sea swimming as a proud member of SBR Athletics Club.

Martin works in the construction industry as a Contracts Manager with Nevin Construction Building Contractors, but his journey began many years ago as a blocklayer and stonemason. Construction has given him a great career, and now he feels fortunate to use those skills to support less fortunate communities.

Martin has always wanted to volunteer his time and be part of a project where he could give a little back. That opportunity has now come through the Bungoma Outreach Project.

Next February, Martin will travel to Bungoma, Kenya, as part of our volunteer group, helping to finish our teenage mother house and rebuild classrooms and shower facilities, while also supporting efforts to provide access to clean, safe water.

Thank you, Martin, for giving your time, skills, and heart to this project. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›

But none of this would be possible without our incredible .

Today, weโ€™re celebrating Joanne Murphy, one of our wonderful 2027 volunteers.

Joanne works as an SNA in Poulfur N.S., a role she truly loves and finds incredibly rewarding. Outside of work, she can usually be found on the sidelines of a pitch, cheering on her two boys, Oisรญn and Fionn. When she gets a little time to herself, she enjoys listening to music and relaxing with a good Netflix series.

Joanne is delighted to be part of Bungoma 27. From the moment she saw the information evening advertised, she felt it was meant to be. She feels incredibly privileged to be part of something so special and looks forward to making memories that will stay with her for a lifetime!

Thank you, Joanne, for being part of the Bungoma Outreach family ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’œ

But none of this would be possible without our incredible .

Today, weโ€™re celebrating Adrian Murphy QFA, one of our wonderful 2027 volunteers.

Adrian is a proud father of two boys, Oisรญn and Fionn, and husband to Joanne, who will also be travelling as part of the Bungoma Outreach 2027 team. Originally from Mayglass and now living in Clongeen, Adrian enjoys sport, especially golf, while still trying to keep up with a bit of hurling and football, despite his boys telling him heโ€™s too old! ๐Ÿ˜„

After seeing the incredible work carried out in 2025 and hearing the powerful stories shared by returning volunteers, Adrian and Joanne knew they wanted to be part of the next journey to Bungoma.

We are so grateful to Adrian for giving his time, energy, and heart to this project. We know he and Joanne will bring so much warmth and positivity as they help support happier, safer lives for the people of Bungoma.

Thank you, Adrian, for being part of the Bungoma Outreach family ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›
