Portlaw / High Road Solar Action Group will be handing in a letter to Waterford Council on Thursday 13th November to raise concerns about the growing number of large-scale solar farm applications in our area.

Our friends across rural Waterford and beyond are being directly impacted, and we’re asking for your support.

Planning Ref: 25/60625 – Crag Rathnew DC & Kent Homes Ltd.

📍 Status:
⏸️ Application on hold – Waterford Council has requested major additional information before any decision can be made.

⚠️ Why the Council paused it

1. ❗ Missing details – drawings, maps, and design info incomplete

2. 🌳 Visual & landscape impact – more realistic and true images required

3. 🔊 Noise concerns – from data centres and delivery traffic - purpose of warehouses

4. 🚗 Traffic & access issues – new roundabout and safer walkways needed - Disconnected to the current village

5. 💧 Flood & water risks – more hydrology tests required

6. 🦉 Biodiversity & tree loss – full ecology plan demanded

7. ⚡ Energy use & grid pressure, – must show real renewable benefits

8. 🏘️ Community impact – Council wants stronger local benefit measures

9. 🏺 Archaeology – full survey must be done

10. 🔌 Separate applications needed for substation, microgrid and gas pipeline

The Kilmeaden data centre & energy complex is not approved.
