Last weekend a group went to Clifden
On Saturday they had 2 hikes, a B & C.
The B hike took on the Glencorbet Horseshoe. Which included Benbaun the highest peak in Connemara. The views were spectacular at times.
The C walkers took on Diamond Hill and from there went to Kylemore Abbey and took a tour of the monastery.
On Sunday we did one hike around Binn Gabhar. An enjoyable hike that finished in a pub in Clifden
Mondays’ weather was the best of the weekend so we decided to extend our stay and did a hike along Killary Fjord (Irelands only Fjord). The views along this 6.4km track were spectacular.

The B group braved a wet start today in the Comeraghs setting off from the farmyard at Rathgormack. Given the Forcast of low cloud with poor visibility on top we choose a root that would minimise time on top but give us good altitude gain. From the farmyard we went to Loch Com Duala where we met cloud cover. Then in poor visibility ascended to the top near knockaunanafrin rock at 600m. It was a good steep climb. From there we descended immediately down to the Nire valley car park getting visibility again half way down at around 450m. From the car park we took the boardwalk to Com Ladiesi and ascended once again to the top and back into cloud until we started our descent from Breagan Mor down to the Boolas and took the track back to the cars. A good steady pace foe 5hrs 40. 950m elevation and 15km. We were lucky with the weather after a wet start. Very little wind. Another great day in the mountains.

Day two of our Snowdonia adventure. Unfortunately the weather has changed. We had rain rain and more rain with 70Km winds at the summits and poor visibility. How things change in 24hrs. We still braved the elements and hiked 14km and 980m of elevation in 4 hrs 15 mins. No hanging around today. Never appreciated a shower and a pint so much after. Day 3 tomorrow!!

Members of CMC are on a 3 day hiking trip to the beautiful Snowdonia area on Wales. First day completed in super weather. Light winds and broken sunshine. The group split in two today with 9 members hiking the Nantlle ridge. 14 km 1000M elevation hike. Fantastic views from the snow covered peaks of Snowdon all the way out to the Irish Sea. Four of the crew did a scrambling day on Tryfan. A spectacular mountain in a mixture of dry and icy conditions. A great start to our three day adventure.

Last Sundays B Walk started at Mahon Bridge with 13 brave hikers who took on the weather elements. The original planned route was the horse shoe loop at high level around Mahon Falls, but this changed quickly to Plan B, a low-level hike because we were not able to cross the high rivers safely. We went from Mahon Bridge up along the river to Mahon Falls and then onto Neds Cottage, then over to the forest for lunch and shelter. After lunch, we headed down Davmore and followed the river path to Mahon Bridge. Distance hiked 17km and total ascent 540m.

Today’s B walk was in the Knockmeldowns. Departed from carpark near Mount Melleray monastery and headed along St Declan’s way through the woods and then out onto the hills. Headed West from there to Gloungarriff Bridge. From there went North following Rian Bo Phadraig to Knocknagnauv peak, then crossed westwards after lunch to second peak Knocknafalla. Descended South back to the woods, regained St Declan’s Way and returned to carpark. Total 16kms and elevation gain of 650m.

Our C walk today took us through Crough woods and onto Mahon valley. From there we headed down towards the tree line and Ned Curran’s cottage, nestled in the lovely Tay
valley. It was great to have the sun out after all the rain. A great day was had by all.
