THE COMERAGH CROSSING AND CHALLENGE WALKS - Saturday 11 July 2026

Dungarvan Hillwalking Club is delighted to have our annual event included in Comeraghs Wild Festival 2026.
We are hosting a selection of walks of various distances. All walks visit the top of Cruachán with beautiful views of Dungarvan and the bay.
The four options, each with different levels of walking are as follows:
• Comeragh Challenge (45km, ascent ≈ 2000m)*
• Comeragh Crossing (35km, ascent ≈ 1250m)**
• Nire Valley Walk (20km, ascent ≈ 900m)**
• Kilbrien Walk (12km, ascent ≈ 300m)**

THE COMERAGH CROSSING AND CHALLENGE - 11 July 2026

There is no onsite registration.
Fees: Walks 1, 2 & 3 €55. Walk 4 is €28. Fee includes bus transport to the start, and a hot meal at the finish. No refunds available.
By participating, you are making a contribution to our three chosen charities. South Eastern Mountain Rescue, Waterford Hospice, and Dungarvan Lions Club.

START & FINISH VENUE.
All starting and finishing at Kilgobinet Sports Centre Bohadoon, Dungarvan, County Waterford. All four walks take participants to the top of Cruachán with its beautiful views of Dungarvan and the bay. The area of the walk is on O.S.I sheet 75 and EastWest Mapping – Comeragh. By participating, you are making a contribution to our three chosen charities, West Waterford Hospice, Dungarvan Lions and South Eastern Mountain Rescue. This is a green walking event leaving no trace and taking your litter Home. Reducing CO2 emissions & Reusing signs & Recycling waste.

Walk 1 - Comeragh Challenge- Clonmel to Kilgobinet Sports Centre
Distance 45km; Ascent 2,000m. Bus Leaves at 07:00 hrs Fee: €55
Self-Navigated walk aimed at the very experienced and fit walker with navigation skills. Route via Lachtnafrankee and Knockanaffrin ridge to the Nire Valley, then via the Gap, Carrignagour, Boola Cairn to Coumfea, Seefin, Farbreaga and Cruachán.

Walk 2 - Comeragh Crossing - Clonmel to Kilgobinet Sports Centre
Distance 35km, Ascent 1,250m. Bus Leaves at 07:30 hrs. Fee: €55
It takes 8 – 10 hours to complete via Long hill, Punch Bowl and the slopes of Knockanaffrin to the Nire Valley, then Coumfea, Seefin, Treenearla Commons, Mauma Road and Cruachan. Mainly on mountain terrain. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route.

Walk 3 - The Nire Valley Walk - The Nire Valley car park to Kilgobinet Sports Centre
Distance 20km, Ascent 900m, Duration Bus Leaves at 10:00. Fee €55
It takes 5-6 hours (appox) via Coumfea, Seefin, Treenearla Commons, Mauma Road and Cruachan. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route.

Walk 4 - The Kilbrien Walk-Circular Walk from Kilgobinet Sports Centre
Distance 12km, Ascent 350m. Walk commences at 13:00
Circular walk from Kilgobinet Sports Centre, and takes about 3 hours to complete. Route via Mauma Road and Cruachan. Club marshals and sweepers will be on the route.
