Our campaign has been running for the last few weeks in Edinburgh and throughout Ireland. It features four of the animals at Eden Farmed Animal Sanctuary Ireland who were previously oppressed by human use, each of them representing the billions of their comrades who are bred to be used as commodities. Their lives were radically altered when they were fortunate enough to find dignity and respect on a vegan sanctuary. They are:

Cormac: who was born into the Irish dairy industry
Blossom: a hen who was bred for a combination of entertainment at a petting farm, and food, and would have been used for her eggs and flesh.
Banjo: representing the sheep bred for their wool and flesh
Emily: who was born on an Irish pig farm and destined to be used for her capacity to be a mother and give birth, and eventually killed for her flesh.

We often see comments stating that our ads should be more graphic. However, depiction of the appalling suffering we inflict to other animals merely targets the symptoms of a greater problem. There would be no negligence or deliberate suffering if we stopped using them in the first place. Veganism is not about improving the conditions in which we use other animals and the ways we treat them. It is about connecting with who they are and recognising that they are sentient beings with the right not to be used as resources. They are Someone, Not Something.
