What does it mean to rebuild your life through education?

For many migrants and refugees, access to university is not simply about earning a degree. It is about safety, dignity, opportunity, and the chance to build a future after displacement.

In this article, Paula Córdova explores how local and community-based organisations in Ireland are helping make that possible. Through initiatives such as Community Sponsorship Groups and the Ireland Fellows Programme, migrants are being supported not only in accessing higher education, but also in navigating integration, building community, and finding a sense of belonging. At the heart of the piece is a simple but important message: access to education can be transformative, both for individuals and for the society that welcomes them.

I feel validated in the impact I want to make and I've gained access to tools and resources I wouldn't have had otherwise."🎤

Ash joined the 2025 Ideas Collective as a UCD master's student with a long-held dream of tackling financial inequality. With STAND's support through the programme, he set up .education — a social enterprise delivering free financial literacy workshops to young people from underserved communities across Ireland.
He's since delivered his first pilot workshop in Waterford and is working towards registering as a company. 🙌 read his story here: https://stand.ie/our-impact/stories-impact/ashley-mccartan

From idea to impact in three steps. Here's how the Ideas Collective journey works. 🧵

Step 1: The Bootcamp 🌱
An intensive five-day programme in Cork, Galway or Dublin (May–June 2026) where you develop your idea through design thinking, connect with fellow changemakers, hear from expert speakers — and pitch at a live showcase at the end of the week.

Step 2: The Incubator 🚀
Selected bootcamp participants progress to a nine-month incubator (September–May). Once a month you'll come together for expert input sessions, peer learning and shared problem-solving — including a weekend residential — all to keep building your project.

Step 3: The Final Showcase + Seed Funding 🏆
The incubator concludes with a final showcase where projects are presented to a panel. Winners receive €5,000 in seed funding to bring their idea to life.

Art is never just art. It can be protest, resistance, memory, and hope all at once.

Our latest article, Creative Resistance: How Art is Shaping Social Movements , explores the power of artivism and how artists across the world are using creativity to challenge injustice.

From Ireland’s Repeal Banner, to Kenya’s Gen Z protest posters, to Black Lives Matter murals around the world, this piece shows how murals, music, performance, design, and digital art can do more than capture attention. They can move people, build solidarity, and help spark real social and political change.

Written by Evalyne Awuor Otieno and Safia Mohamed, this article is a reminder that creativity is not separate from activism. It is one of its most powerful tools.

What role do you think art plays in social change?

As the conversations around International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day begin to fade, this is an important moment to keep reflecting on whose stories are still being overlooked. While these occasions invite celebration, they should also push us to think more honestly about inequality, justice, and belonging.

This powerful article by Fahmeda Naheed shines a light on the realities migrant women in Ireland continue to face. It explores how gender inequality is not experienced equally, and how migration status, race, class, shape everyday life for many women.

This piece is a timely and necessary reminder that real justice must include everyone. If we are serious about dignity, equality, and belonging, then migrant women’s voices must be part of the center of that conversation.

Take a moment to read, reflect, and engage.
