Thanks Cllr John O Heney - Commissioner for Oaths, the water situation is totally beyond belief at this stage.

Sunflowers at school are looking amazing. Well done to the children who sowed the seeds in spring. We will be saving seeds for next year and saving some for the birds over winter.🐦🐦

Get out in nature and search for this beautiful butterfly, spotted in the Glen of Aherlow,
Amazing photo as always, Neil Halligan

📍 Nature Alert from the beautiful Glen of Aherlow, Co. Tipperary!🌍🦋

Delighted to get a shot recently of a Clouded Yellow butterfly (Colias croceus) resting on a wildflower. While single specimens are reported almost annually in Ireland—mostly along the southern and eastern coasts—seeing one this far inland in the glen is a wonderful surprise.

A few fascinating facts about this species:

The Ultimate Roadtripper: They are true migratory butterflies that travel thousands of kilometers from North Africa and the Mediterranean.

Master of Disguise: They almost never rest with their wings open. The gorgeous golden-yellow and bold black borders are only fully visible when they are in mid-flight!

A "Clouded Yellow Year": Their numbers fluctuate wildly every year. When weather conditions line up perfectly, they arrive en masse in what wildlife enthusiasts fondly call a "Clouded Yellow Year". This year would seem to be one of them.

Keep your eyes peeled if you're out walking in wildflower meadows or clover fields this month!

We were very grateful to receive €595 from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, under the Local Enhancement Programme. This has been used to purchase a battery strimmer, with battery & charger.
The main use for the strimmer will be edging jobs around the church and St. Nicholas' graveyard.
