After a hugely successful curry night, the brilliant hall committee move on to the next event:
Pop up Shop, this year 50% of funds raised will go to BUMBLEance Children's Ambulance Service. Bring your preloved items to the hall today, Sunday, between 11 and 6.
BUMBLEance provides non-emergency free transport around the country, with specially trained drivers. It is a child-friendly space with sensory lighting, TV, and games consoles; there is room for parents/carers.
BUMBLEance is a charity and relies entirely on fundraising and donations. Check out their page to see all the special journeys they make.

For Climate Action Week, come along and see us at the Pop-Up Shop. Donations of sports gear & Halloween outfits can be dropped into the hall next week, and from 15th to 17th you can come to our stall and get free sports gear & Halloween outfits.

After months of sourcing photos, tracking down names and learning so much about our local history the Committee of Monard Community Hall are pleased to announce the Solohead Family Album Volume 2 is ready!

Available to preorder from tomorrow morning (Tuesday October 6th) at Toomey's Shop Monard and Fitzpatrick Design and Print. You can also purchase online at this link https://share.google/ulUtLecVAU9jNL7Se

The book will be officially launched in Monard Community Hall on November 14th at 7pm. Preorders can be collected then.

The Solohead Family Album Volume 2 is €30. If delivery is required please contact us at [email protected]. Delivery orders are limited to 3 books and cost is an additional €7 postage to Ireland and €12:50 to the UK.

Day 3: Bats & Trees

🌳Trees are important for bats:

- Roosting - different types of roosts
- Foraging
- Commuting

Trees such as the mighty Oak attract a diverse range of invertebrate species for bats to feed on.

Bats will use different parts of a tree depending on the time of year and temperature. In winter they might move lower in the tree and further inside the trunk for better hibernation conditions.

Trees such as oak, beech and ash are suitable for bats, but any woodland or tree has potential for a bat roost no matter the size – if it has holes, loose bark, gaps, cracks, splits and other prfs it can be used by bats.

Many Irish bats roost in trees from time to time and also rely on trees & hedgerows for foraging.

Brown long-eared bats often emerge from their roost inside a church for example and fly straight to the nearest tree or hedgerow to glean.

The species that is most often found in trees is the Leisler’s bat, 13% of all recorded roosts of this species in Ireland have been located in trees.
