As part of our youth-led digital campaign with Youth Work Ireland Tipperary and Comhairle na nÓg Tipperary, young people took part in two creative workshops designed to put their voices and ideas at the centre of the campaign.

In Workshop 1: Make It Go Viral, the group explored their own social media habits, what makes them stop scrolling, what they enjoy seeing and what makes content memorable and shareable.

From there, they developed campaign ideas, slogans and content concepts, before voting on their favourites. Authenticity, relatability, humour, surprise and emotion all came out as key ingredients.

In Workshop 2: The Campaign Studio, those ideas became reality. The group developed their own content plans, worked out the story and key messages, filmed using phones and props together.

The result? “5 Reasons Why You’d Recommend Youth Work”, a video created by young people, for young people, highlighting what they believe makes youth work so valuable:

✨ New opportunities
💬 Making a difference
🧠 Learning new skills
And, most importantly… having fun!

This is exactly why we create spaces for young people to have a genuine voice. The aim wasn't to tell young people what we thought would work, it was to listen to them, give them the tools to create and let their ideas shape the campaign.

LCYP Coordinator Nuala Martin represented Tipperary Education and Training Board (TETB) at the 3rd annual Child Poverty and Well-being Summit, hosted by Taoiseach Micheál Martin at the Axis Arts & Community Resource Centre in Ballymun.

The national-level event brought together policymakers, practitioners, community organisations and young people to explore the theme ‘Every Child: Tackling poverty to build inclusion, well-being and social cohesion.’

Nuala had the opportunity to meet with Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley, while connecting with people working across Ireland to support children, young people, families and communities.

The Summit was also a valuable opportunity to hear from those working on the ground and to reflect on the role of community spaces and hubs in creating connection, participation and a sense of belonging.

For LCYP, these conversations are closely connected to our work across Tipperary. We know that creativity, play, culture and participation can provide important opportunities for children and young people to build confidence, express themselves, develop friendships and feel connected to their communities.

But not every child has equal access to these opportunities. Removing barriers, listening to young people and building strong local networks are essential to ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate and belong.

It was also wonderful to connect with colleagues from across the national Local Creative Youth Partnership network, sharing learning and strengthening the connections that help us continue this work across our communities.

Recently, LCYP Coordinator Nuala Martin held a youth consultation with 34 young people from Comhairle na nÓg, creating a space for young people to share their views on creativity, access and provision across Tipperary.

The consultation explored the Right to be Heard, a fundamental principle within the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Article 12), alongside the right to participate in cultural and artistic life under Article 31.

We also explored how the Lundy Model, supported through the National Framework for Children and Young People’s Participation in Decision-Making, puts these rights into practice by ensuring young people have a safe space, a genuine voice, an audience that listens and the opportunity for their views to have influence and impact.

Rather than relying solely on traditional consultation methods, we used World Café as a creative way to encourage conversation, collaboration and participation. Together, we explored young people’s experiences of creativity across Tipperary, what access looks like in their communities and what more they would like to see provided.

For LCYP, youth consultation isn't simply about asking young people what they think. Their voices are an essential part of understanding local need and shaping the creative opportunities we develop and support.

This is particularly important when working to reach seldom-heard young people and remove barriers to participation. By listening directly to young people, we can better understand their experiences, identify gaps in provision and ensure that creativity is accessible, relevant and meaningful.

Listening. Connecting. Responding.

Because young people shouldn't just have a voice, they should have a meaningful role in shaping what happens next.

Happy Hands Creations | Creativity, Connection & Community ❤️

Over the summer, LCYP supported Happy Hands Creations, a child-centred creative project with children living in and around Bridgewater House in Carrick-on-Suir.

Across a series of fun, hands-on workshops, children explored arts & crafts and LEGO, using colour, materials and design to bring their ideas and imaginations to life. ✨

With the support of experienced creative practitioners, the project created a safe, welcoming and inclusive space where children could express themselves, build confidence and develop their creativity, while making new friends and connections along the way.

And there was plenty of fun too, with magicians and face painting adding to the experience! 🎨

Most importantly, Happy Hands Creations brought children from different backgrounds together through creativity, helping to build belonging, connection and a stronger sense of community.

A wonderful example of how creative activity can create spaces where every child can participate, feel valued and have the opportunity to shine. ❤️

Over six weeks, young people from the Teen Club at Unity Youth Hub came together to create something that is truly theirs, a youth publication shaped by their ideas, interests, creativity and voices.

Starting with the theme ‘Our Town’, the group had the freedom to interpret, reinvent and make the theme their own, taking full creative and editorial ownership of the publication.

Along the way, young people explored everything from creative writing, journalism and interviewing to photography, artwork, culture journalism and publication design, even learning how to bring their ideas together using Canva Pro. 📸🎨

The adults involved supported from the sidelines, creating the space, providing guidance, connecting young people with resources and, most importantly, helping their ideas become reality.

A huge thank you to Lucy Warmington and the team at Silver Arch FRC for being such wonderful collaborators on this project and for supporting young people to take the lead.

What happens when young people get the chance to step behind the camera and explore the world of film? 🎞

As part of Clonmel Junction Festival, young people from Cahir and Clonmel took part in an immersive film experience delivered in collaboration with Clonmel Junction Festival and Waterford & South Tipperary Community Youth Services (WSTCYS).

From hands-on creative workshops to an exclusive local film screening and live Q&A sessions with film directors, participants got the opportunity to explore visual storytelling, discover how films are made, and hear directly from the people behind the stories. 🎥

Running from 29 June to 6 July, the project gave young people a chance to learn, experiment, ask questions and see filmmaking from a whole new perspective.

A brilliant example of how creative opportunities can open up new skills, confidence and possibilities for young people. 💚

ONEMORECHOON, a vinyl DJing and wellbeing collective founded by Paul Sheehan, currently collaborating with Youth Work Ireland Tipperary on this programme will be giving young people the opportunity to explore the world of DJing, music culture and creative expression.

Across 5 hands-on sessions, participants learn the foundations of DJing, from beat matching and mixing to music selection, set planning and performance, while getting to grips with professional DJ equipment. 🎶

The programme creates a welcoming space for young people to build confidence, discover their musical identity, develop new skills and explore potential pathways into the creative and music industries.

From beginner basics to performing their own short DJ sets, One More Choon is putting young people in control of the music. 🎧✨

What happens when young people, creativity and heritage come together? Culture in Action.

34 young people from UBU Thurles/Templemore, alongside their exchange partners from Greece, came together at Cahir Castle for an immersive creative workshop led by artists Shannen Slattery and Courtney Heyes.

Taking inspiration from the castle itself, participants explored en plein air sketching, drawing outdoors directly from life, using viewfinders to discover unique architectural details and landscapes. From historic stonework and masonry to light, shadow and texture, the castle became their creative canvas. ✏️

The workshop offered more than an opportunity to draw. As part of a wider Culture & Identity exchange programme, it created a space for young people to explore Irish heritage, share perspectives and connect through creativity.

The day followed a visit to the National Gallery in Dublin, giving participants the opportunity to experience Irish art before bringing their inspiration to Cahir Castle.

A huge thank you to Shannen and Courtney, the youth workers who supported the project, Tipperary Heritage Office and Róisín O’Grady, and the wonderful team at Cahir Castle, particularly manager Lorraine Egan, for helping make this experience possible. 💚
