Last week, LCYP Coordinator Nuala Martin joined Ann Burke (Traveller Education Programme Coordinator) and Fiona Quinn (LCYP Coordinator, Cork ETB) at a valuable and enlightening seminar in Cork City Hall, focused on creating an inclusive education system for all children and young people.
Key highlights from the seminar included:
📌 Dr Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children, on education for Travellers as a fundamental human right.
📌 Dr Hannagh McGinley on barriers to an inclusive education system, including structural, cultural, and systemic challenges; implications for Traveller and Roma learners; and updates on TRES inclusion recommendations.
📌 A guided discussion to explore progress, challenges, and next steps for a more inclusive education system.
This event reinforced LCYP’s commitment to collaboration, inclusivity, and advocating for seldom-heard youth voices across Tipperary and beyond.
