TIPS FOR GUERILLA TREE PLANTING

1. Explore your area. Find small patches of disused or neglected land. Could be a garden, a roadside verge or an industrial estate.

2. Get yourself some willow cuttings. Cut 30cm sections from willow in the winter and keep in a bucket of water until you are ready to plant.

3. On a day and time of your choosing plant your cuttings by simply forcing the willow into the ground. Plant 15cms deep and leave a metre between plants.

4. Enjoy

Willow is amazing

This coppiced willow has been lying on a gravel path for several weeks and has already thrown out both roots and shoots along the length of the trunks.

Happy Earth Day

Willow planted for a basket maker. We harvested cuttings from another site and pushed them through the geo textile straight into the ground. This is normally done in winter but we only got to it 2 weeks ago. The cuttings had been sitting in water since January. Goes to show how resilient this plant is and how easy to grow.

EDIT Thanks to the input of a follower I now suspect this is a Crimson King Norway Maple.

Collecting seeds from a nice Purple Maple growing in a local school.

These trees were introduced to Ireland.

Can tolerate air pollution so good for a town or city garden and unusually for purple trees can thrive in coastal areas.

Look out for the seeds now and if you collect some let me know in the comments below.

My day job as a gardener gives me plenty of opportunity to rescue little trees like this oak from today. A few years in a pot and then planted out somewhere where it will hopefully be left alone to mature.

We need to plant a trillion trees now!

Checking up on the willow planted a few weeks ago. Most are showing new growth like this one.
