What a fantastic morning we had on Saturday at our Shillelagh Fitzwilliam History & Heritage Walk as part of National Heritage Week.
It was wonderful to see so many people from our local community and beyond come together to explore the rich history that makes Shillelagh such a special place. From the Cheshire home to our Courthouse and historic railways buildings to our National Schools, Churches and historic workhouses and Cork Oak Tree, each stop reminded us of the remarkable story of our village and the people who shaped it.
A very special thank you to Joe Dolan, whose passion, dedication and exceptional knowledge of Shillelagh's history made the walk such an engaging and memorable experience. Joe's ability to bring our local heritage to life through stories, facts and historical insight was truly outstanding and greatly appreciated by everyone who attended.
We would also like to sincerely thank our other local historians who generously shared their knowledge, memories and research. Their commitment to preserving Shillelagh's heritage ensures these stories will continue to be enjoyed by future generations.
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended, supported and helped make the event such a success. Your enthusiasm demonstrates the strong pride our community has in its heritage and our shared commitment to preserving it.
This is only the beginning. We look forward to continuing to celebrate, protect and promote the unique history of Shillelagh for generations to come.
