Work has begun on the courthouse windows! Our lovely window boxes, which are planted and watered by dedicated volunteers, have been placed aside to give access to the windows. The company carrying out the restoration works began today and work is expected to take around two months from removal to re installation along with internal panelling replacement.

What a fantastic morning we had on Saturday at our Shillelagh Fitzwilliam History & Heritage Walk as part of National Heritage Week.

It was wonderful to see so many people from our local community and beyond come together to explore the rich history that makes Shillelagh such a special place. From the Cheshire home to our Courthouse and historic railways buildings to our National Schools, Churches and historic workhouses and Cork Oak Tree, each stop reminded us of the remarkable story of our village and the people who shaped it.

A very special thank you to Joe Dolan, whose passion, dedication and exceptional knowledge of Shillelagh's history made the walk such an engaging and memorable experience. Joe's ability to bring our local heritage to life through stories, facts and historical insight was truly outstanding and greatly appreciated by everyone who attended.

We would also like to sincerely thank our other local historians who generously shared their knowledge, memories and research. Their commitment to preserving Shillelagh's heritage ensures these stories will continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended, supported and helped make the event such a success. Your enthusiasm demonstrates the strong pride our community has in its heritage and our shared commitment to preserving it.

This is only the beginning. We look forward to continuing to celebrate, protect and promote the unique history of Shillelagh for generations to come.

Shillelagh has a new defibrillator (AED) located at Walkers Shop on the main street!

Special thanks for the financial support needed to make our community safer from Wicklow County Council, the local community and The Crablane Vintage Club.

This brings the total number of defibrillators in our local area to six. Other locations include Parkview House, the Courthouse, the toilet block on the Fairgreen, Ballard Park and Coolatin Golf Club.

AEDs were designed to be used by virtually anyone with little or no experience and can greatly increase the survival chances if someone suffers a cardiac event. More information on how and when to use a defibrillator can be found here on the Community First Responders website at www.cfr.ie

Have you noticed the works and improvements happening on our village Fairgreen this year?

This is Phase 1 of the Fairgreen development which is now complete which has been funded with the support of a Sports Capital and Equipment Programme grant.

New dugouts, spectator fencing, and ball stop nets are all in. The power lines are safely underground and the pitch has been realigned and squared off.

Huge thanks to our brilliant volunteer crew β€” especially Dara and Enda Foley and Francis Simpson β€” and everyone who lent a hand.

Next up: grass seed (we're waiting on rain for once!) We have also applied for a CLÁR grant to finish the fencing, upgrade the walkway and carry out much needed works to renovate the toilets.
