This week we learned of the devastating news that local, Fiona McHugh, had passed away. Fiona and her family very generously supported us during covid by helping us with ad hoc requests in Lenehans, when we had locals in need, and also by providing this amazing Sunday Roast to over 100 local elderly and vulnerable. Thinking of Fiona's family, particularly her sister Orla who was an extremely active local volunteer in our group during covid. Rest in peace, Fiona.
On the bank holiday Monday last week, 3 of our Rathgar Community Connect volunteers, Orla, Fiachra and Danielle β along with Orlaβs brother in law, Paul and Orla's family β were busy packing up the amazing roast pork dinner and apple crumble dessert they had made and paid for, for 101 local elderly neighbours in Rathgar! An additional 10+ Rathgar Community Connect volunteers, along with Orlaβs family members and Rathgar Meals on Wheels volunteers then delivered:
50 meals to Meals on Wheels clients
10 meals to Eastwell Assisted Living Home
41 meals to Rathgar residents who had previously reached out to our group
Our recipients were overwhelmed and very grateful for a lovely roast dinner which they had not had the opportunity to have in quite a few weeks. Additional thanks to Lenehans Bar & Grill and Rathgar Consultancy Centre Counselling and Psychotherapy who also provided funding and support for this, and to McLoughlin Butchers for providing us with the meat at a very low cost. We are very grateful for everyoneβs support!
