Our own Divisional Commander Willie Bligh was in attendance and presented Lar with his 30-year gong. Congratulations to Lar on his length of service and his outstanding contribution to Dublin Civil Defence and the organisation as a whole.

Lar leaves behind a great legacy and a very competent unit, shaped by his leadership, knowledge, and dedication over many years. His influence and standards will continue to be felt for a long time to come.

We wish Lar every health and happiness in his retirement.

Its national Volunteer Week from 18th to 24th May. As part of National Volunteering Week, we want to recognise the people across Ireland who choose to give their time to others.

Volunteering doesn’t always mean grand gestures.

Sometimes it’s coaching the local underage team on a cold evening.
Sometimes it’s helping at a community fundraiser.
Sometimes it’s teaching young people through Scouting Ireland.
Sometimes it’s launching a lifeboat with the RNLI.
And sometimes it’s providing fire or medical cover to the community .

Different people. Different roles. Same idea.

Giving your time simply because it matters.

The Civil Defence is a national organisation, with every county having its own dedicated Civil Defence unit. Every day, members of Civil Defence are out in communities across the country, supporting events, assisting during emergencies, and helping those who need it most. Made up entirely of volunteers from all walks of life, Civil Defence continues to provide a vital service through commitment, teamwork, and community spirit.
