Lunch & Learn: Public Lecture

Speaker: Bernie Doherty, Galway Community Archaeologist

Bernie Doherty’s talk focuses on the archaeology of the famine, examining the physical and material traces left in the landscape, including settlement patterns, relief works, burial grounds and abandoned places. Bernie draws on decades of professional archaeological experience and community-based research, and highlights how archaeology provides insights into lived experience, survival strategies and long-term legacy, complementing documentary sources and oral history.
