Talk and presentation on the Asian Hornett Bee in Dunsany Hall on Wednesday 25th March at 8pm by Frankie de Dobbelaere. All welcome.

In 2025 three nests of Asian Hornets were identified and removed in Ireland. At the start of the new season it is important to identify these invasive species as early as possible. They form potential threat to our biodiversity and beekeeping.

The presentation on the Asian Hornets (Vespa velutina) will draw awareness on these hornets, in particular how to recognise the Asian Hornets and their nests and to know where to report any sighting of it to Biodiversity Ireland.

The lecture covers also the lifecycle of the Asian Hornet, actions to prevent its settlement, and many other interesting aspects related to Asian Hornets.

Frankie de Dobbelaere has enthusiastically kept bees the last 10 years. She is actively involved in providing lectures to beekeepers, including those beginning to keep bees and in mentoring beekeepers.
She is part of the Asian Hornet Group Ireland, drawing awareness to this potentially devastating invasive species to beekeepers and the public. She continues to build-up expertise with Asian Hornets as a volunteer in a local network group abroad, attended a course and obtained a certificate as eradicator of Asian Hornets.
