🕊️🎤 Words in Flight – Part 4: Taking Wing

What began as a conversation became a poem.

What became a poem became a mural.

And what became a mural became a celebration of creativity, collaboration and community.

During the festival, Words in Flight was officially unveiled alongside a powerful spoken word performance by Dagogo Hart, bringing the project full circle.

A huge thank you to Kevin Bohan, Dagogo Hart, the students and staff of Scariff Community College, our volunteers and everyone who supported this remarkable project.

🕊️ Words in Flight has taken wing.

🎨🕊️ Words in Flight – Part 2: Building the Foundation

Before the colours, before the characters and before the mural began to reveal itself, there was a framework to build.

As the structure took shape, artist Kevin Bohan immersed himself in the poems, ideas and reflections created by students from Scariff Community College during workshops with Dagogo Hart.

Working from their words, Kevin began the process of translating themes of flight, freedom, imagination and possibility into visual form. Piece by piece, the mural’s composition emerged, guided by the creativity and voices that inspired it.

Like the project itself, the mural was built through collaboration, teamwork and shared vision — with every stage laying the groundwork for what was to come.

This was the moment where ideas began to take shape.

Words in Flight – Part 1: Where It Began

Every mural begins with an idea.

A month before the festival, poet Dagogo Hart worked with students from Scariff Community College, exploring the theme of Flight through poetry, storytelling and spoken word.

Their words, thoughts and imagination became the inspiration for a project that would eventually transform a blank wall into a powerful piece of public art.

This is where Words in Flight began.

🎨🕊️ A Village Becomes a Gallery

One of the most remarkable aspects of this year’s Mountshannon Arts Festival was seeing art emerge in every corner of the village.

From galleries and public spaces to the maze, the meadow, the forge and the harbour, artists transformed Mountshannon into a place of discovery, conversation and imagination. Through photography, ceramics, sculpture, installations, murals and community projects, this year’s theme of FLIGHT took many forms, inviting visitors to pause, reflect and see the world through fresh eyes.

At the heart of the festival’s visual arts programme was FLIGHT, a special exhibition in Scariff Library featuring nine remarkable local artists, each with a longstanding connection to Mountshannon Arts Festival and its creative community. Together they brought a diverse range of styles, perspectives and artistic practices, celebrating both the richness of local talent and the spirit of this year’s theme.

As the festival marked its 30th anniversary, it was particularly fitting that artists who have exhibited, volunteered, supported and grown alongside the festival over the years came together for this special exhibition. Among them was Nicola Henley, one of the festival’s founding members in 1996, whose involvement reflects the enduring legacy of a community event that continues to inspire creativity, connection and artistic expression three decades on.

This carousel celebrates just some of the artists, makers, curators and creative projects that helped bring FLIGHT to life.

💛 Thank you to every artist, curator, workshop facilitator and volunteer who shared their creativity, generosity and vision with us throughout the festival. Your work helped make our 30th anniversary celebration truly unforgettable.

🕊️✨ One Final Flight

Monday brought the 30th Mountshannon Arts Festival to a close, but not before one final day filled with creativity, music, storytelling and community.

Visitors spent the day exploring exhibitions across the village, discovering outdoor installations, enjoying poetry and song, joining historical walks, building Homes for Gnomes in Woodpark and sharing in the fun of the BOOM Show.

As the festival drew to a close, audiences gathered for Beneath My Garden – Through A Portal in Time, a powerful musical journey through Irish myth and history, providing a fitting finale to this year’s theme of FLIGHT.

The day also saw the announcement of our Festival Raffle winners. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and supported the festival. Your generosity helps us continue to bring arts, culture and creativity to our community.

💛 As we reflect on an incredible festival weekend, we are filled with gratitude for every artist, performer, volunteer, sponsor, trader, supporter and visitor who helped make our 30th anniversary celebration so special.

Thank you for flying with us.

🌦️🛍️ A Huge Thank You to Our Community Market Traders

The weather may have thrown a few surprises our way, but our wonderful Community Market traders held the fort with smiles, good humour and plenty of festival spirit.

Through sunshine, showers and everything in between, they brought colour, creativity, conversation and a fantastic atmosphere to Aistear Park all weekend long.

From handcrafted goods and local produce to plants, art, clothing, food and unique treasures, the market was a vibrant hub of activity and an important part of the festival experience.

A heartfelt thank you to every trader who packed up their vans, set up their stalls, braved the weather and helped create such a welcoming and lively space for visitors and locals alike.

And thank you to everyone who stopped by, browsed, chatted and chose to support local makers, artists and small businesses.

💛 Community is at the heart of Mountshannon Arts Festival, and the Community Market embodied that spirit beautifully.

🕊️✨ Sunday Soared On

What a beautiful day of creativity, music, movement and community at Mountshannon Arts Festival 2026.

From the laughter and excitement of the BOOM Show, kite making, face painting and children’s workshops, to inspiring conversations with writers, artists and performers, Sunday was filled with discovery for all ages.

Visitors explored exhibitions across the village, joined walks and workshops, and enjoyed an incredible afternoon of live music in the Marquee featuring Leah Song, Kenan Flannery, Sive, Patrick Stefan, A Clatter & Drone and local musicians.

Elsewhere, the Old Schoolhouse came alive with the sounds of jazz, while dance workshops, storytelling and creative activities kept festival-goers moving throughout the day.

As evening fell, audiences were treated to the theatrical magic of Mikel Murfi’s I Hear You and Rejoice, before the festival danced late into the night with an unforgettable DJ set from Paul Chambers, whose return to the decks brought a touch of international club culture to Mountshannon.

These photographs capture just a glimpse of the colour, atmosphere and connection that made Sunday so special.

💛 Thank you to everyone who performed, exhibited, volunteered, attended and supported the festival. Your enthusiasm and generosity are what make Mountshannon Arts Festival so special.
