04/08/2026

Starting this Friday, 7th August, we're delighted to welcome older adults to a FREE 3-week Somatix programme at Moate Sports & Recreation Centre, kindly supported by Age & Opportunity Ireland.

But what exactly is Somatix?

Somatix is a gentle movement approach that focuses on helping you become more comfortable and confident in your body. The classes use slow, controlled movements rather than strenuous exercise, making them suitable for older adults, beginners and people who may not feel comfortable in a traditional exercise class.

They can be particularly beneficial for people who have experienced an injury or a period of reduced mobility and are looking for a gentle way to get moving again at their own pace.

The classes may help with:

🧘 Mobility & flexibility – making everyday movements easier
βš–οΈ Balance & coordination – supporting confidence when moving
πŸ’œ Stiffness & muscle tension – gentle movement can help the body relax
🌿 Posture & body awareness – becoming more aware of how you move
😊 Confidence & wellbeing – enjoying movement in a relaxed, supportive environment

There is no racing, no pressure and no need to keep up with anyone else. Everyone can work at their own pace.

πŸ“… Starting Friday 7th August
πŸ“… Then 14th & 21st August
πŸ•š 11:00am – 12:00pm
πŸ“ Moate Sports & Recreation Centre
πŸ’š FREE

And I hear there'll be tea afterwards! β˜• So you can enjoy some gentle movement, meet others, and finish with a cuppa and a chat. 😊

If you think this could benefit you, or someone you knowβ€”a parent, grandparent, neighbour, friend, or someone recovering from an injuryβ€”please get in touch.

πŸ“ž Mark Lowry: 085 746 9412

Places can be registered in advance, but anyone who turns up on the day will still be welcome and will not be turned away.

🎬 Free Refugee Week Film Screening at Tuar Ard

To mark Refugee Week Ireland 2026, Tuar Ard Arts Centre is delighted to present a special free screening of Home: The Story of Zak Moradi, with Zak Moradi joining us in person for a special post-film conversation.

Born in a Kurdish refugee camp, Zak came to Ireland as a child and went on to build a life here through friendship, community and sport. Many people will know him through his story as a hurler, and this documentary gives audiences a chance to hear the wider story behind that journey.

Home is a powerful film about courage, identity, belonging and what it means to begin again in a new place. It also speaks strongly to the role that local communities and sports clubs can play in helping people feel welcome.
