25th Mayo Louisburgh Scouts

25th Mayo Louisburgh Scouts We are the 25th Mayo Louisburgh Scouts which have been revived in the area. We aim to serve ourselves, each other and our community.

Scouting: a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. In Louisburgh 25th we try to incorporate all of these in our weekly meets to ensure a fun and practical learning environment for kids and leaders alike. We are a small local group, but don't be fooled by our size, for what we lack in a

size we make up for with big personalities and lots of fun. We believe if you aren't smiling and laughing when you're scouting then you're doing it wrong! If you have children who you feel would love to spend time in the outdoors learning skills that will last a life time then we are the group for you. Equally if you are an adult with a sense of adventure or perhaps the child in you still longs to go back to your scouting days then you can contact us on this page to join up and become a leader yourself. We are always looking for people to join our troop, because without leaders, we cannot grow to our full potential. And, if we must say, we're doing a pretty good job at it, as it goes! Don't be a stranger, contact us today. We promise we don't bite, and if we do, we'll show you the necessary skills needed to treat the wound.

Our Scouts took to the beach to whittle some whistles out of willow branches, and improve their knife skills.
More importantly the sun was shining while they whittled away diligently

This week due to the glorious weather we set our Beavers and Cubs a challenge, to build not just a sand castle, but a sand palace. Big buckets = big ideas 💡!

While the girls focused more on the decorating and interior design, the boys focused on accessibility and protection from attack.

Great designs, great beach combing, the thinking caps were truly on!

Saturday morning our Scouts Section and their Scouters took off on the Tóchair Walk, starting in Ballintubber and ending in Murrisk, with a camp in Aughagower in Saturday night.
To say they absolutely smashed it is an understatement, not only did they complete it but they pushed themselves to the limit by adding on the extra climb to the top of Croagh Patrick.

Memories they surely won't forget, and plenty of laughs had, along with the knowledge that sleeping in a hammock in the cold is far worse than sleeping in the tent provided (no fingers pointed at three of our scouts!) 😂

Very proud of our Scouts and our Scouters who took on this with nothing but smiles on their faces and a stone in their pocket. A real test of endurance.

Thanks to Áine and Paul for organising this and Tulio and Róisín who also helped massively throughout.
Our group is very lucky to have amazing socuters and the kids aren't half bad either!

A night of fire skills for the Beavers and Cubs before Xmas. We practiced using a flint and steel, and hope to attempt lighting a fire outdoors when the good weather finally arrives.

While the fire starters were busy, our Scouts section had their heads down with their Scouters studying maps and working on their orienteering and map reading skills.

The Scouts will be partaking in an overnight camp and hike in May, on part of the Tóchar and will put their skills to the test throughout.

Two weeks ago our Beavers and Cubs had a great evening in Castlebar at Cricus Gerbola.

Many thanks to Circus Gerbola for inviting out group for a fantastic evening at the circus and the wonderful deal they offer to all scouting groups.

Thanks to our adult scouters who took the time out of their day to attend and the parents who came along to help also. Without this help and support, outings like this wouldn't be possible!

Last week our group joined forces and hit up to Old Head forest.

Beavers and cubs partook in some shelter building, they were given some time to find items in the area to use for building their shelter and then more time to utilise these items in building their den. This is the first of a number of nights in which we will be partaking in this activity, in the hopes that on the final night we will be able to make shelters which are watertight, which our adult scouters will be testing.

Our scouts used their time to find appropriate areas to hang a hammock and practise doing so, making sure once it was hung that it could maintain their weight.

A very productive evening on old head, and great fun was had by all sections!

One of our scouts Keelan, gave an amazing presentation to the students in Sancta Maria with the help of another scout from our group Reuben.

Very proud of these lads and honoured to have them as part of our group 🙏🙏🙏
