🇮🇪 Congratulations President Catherine Connolly!

Today marks a historic moment for Ireland as Catherine Connolly takes office as our new President.

In her inspiring address, she spoke from the heart about the Irish diaspora, calling it a vital part of our national identity and future. She reminded us that Ireland’s story is global — and that every Irish person abroad is part of the fabric of our Republic.

Her words were a promise: to strengthen ties with Irish communities worldwide, to celebrate our shared heritage, and to ensure that no matter where we live, we remain connected by language, culture, and spirit.

Here’s to a presidency that embraces inclusivity, diversity, and the global Irish family. 🌍💚

☘️ The Finn Family Journey: From to ☘️

We were honoured to welcome Deborah Shepherd Hayes on her first-ever visit to Ireland — a journey filled with heart, history, and heritage. With the incredible support of , Deborah and her son traced the footsteps of her great-great-grandfather, Michael Edward “The Duke” Finn, who emigrated from , County to San Francisco in 1871.

Thanks to the warmth and expertise of local volunteer Dr. Kieran Jordan, they experienced a day of unforgettable discovery — from standing in the church where Patrick Finn and Jane Hanly were married in 1855, to gently clearing ivy from Patrick Finn’s tomb in Kilora Old Graveyard.

💬 As Deborah shared:

“To pull away the overgrown ivy and lay my hands on this monument to my great-great-great grandfather, Patrick Finn, was one of the most moving and fulfilling experiences of my life.”

This journey didn’t just uncover family history — it rekindled a deep emotional connection to Ireland and brought generations of stories to life. 🇮🇪💚

📍 From Kerry to Hollywood

Maurice Talbot-Crosbie’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and deep Irish roots. Born into the Talbot-Crosbie family of Ardfert Abbey, Co. Kerry, Maurice’s life spanned military service, political activism, and even a turn on the silver screen in Hollywood.

📍 Inishowen, Donegal – A Journey into Ancestry

Colleen’s roots run deep in Inishowen. Her ancestors, Moses McIntyre and Rebecca Campbell, left this rugged peninsula in the 1850s. With a rich collection of Campbell lineage already in hand, she came seeking more about the McIntyres.

🕰️ Records trace McIntyre families in the area as far back as 1631, with Culdaff townlands like Tirmacroragh appearing in documents from the 1740s. At Letterkenny Library, I was lucky to uncover historic gems that expanded Colleen’s family tree even further.

🔍 A connection was made with a McIntyre relative—an esteemed historian and fellow member of the Donegal Historical Society—who, though not local year-round, kindly arranged for a neighbour to assist.

🏡 One of the highlights: visiting the site of McIntyre land and the remains of a 300-year-old house. Later, we met at Carndonagh Presbyterian Church (Hillhead), where McIntyres, Campbells, and Wallaces rest. The oldest headstone belongs to James Campbell (1830–1907), Rebecca’s brother.

☕ We wrapped up the day with a warm genealogy chat back at Colleen’s hotel in Culdaff. A truly enriching afternoon filled with history, connection, and discovery.

Huge thanks to Marion, local Donegal volunteer for all her contributions to reuniting Irish diaspora with their roots here in Ireland 😍

💔 The Great Muskerry Divorce of 1842 – A Tale That Rocked Rural Cork

Long before the tabloids and talk shows, one scandalous separation sent shockwaves through the quiet valleys of Muskerry, County Cork. In 1842, a local couple’s dramatic split became the talk of the parish—and beyond. But this wasn’t just gossip; it was a rare public divorce in a time when such things were nearly unheard of in Ireland.

For our Irish Diaspora, this story is more than a juicy tale—it’s a glimpse into the social fabric of 19th-century rural Ireland. It reveals how communities handled conflict, reputation, and resilience in the face of personal upheaval. And who knows? If your ancestors hailed from Muskerry, they might have witnessed—or even whispered about—this very event.
