We are currently dealing with the loss of Community Employment placements across our services at DΓ³chas Midwest Autism Support.
The impact has been significant.
Autistic individuals who had been thriving in structured, supported roles have experienced sudden disruption. For many, these placements were not just work β they were stability, routine, and a pathway forward.
As an organisation, we have had to reduce our charity shop opening hours and are under increasing pressure across our cafΓ© and other services. We have also had to support individuals and staff through unexpected changes.
We are working to find solutions and alternative opportunities, but this situation highlights how critical supported employment pathways are β and how vulnerable they can be to sudden change.
We believe there is a need for greater consistency, understanding, and support in how these programmes operate, particularly for people with additional needs.
We will continue to advocate for the individuals affected and for stronger, more inclusive approaches going forward. EmployAbility Limerick Willie O'Dea Limerick Now WWW.ILOVELIMERICK.COM Limerick Leader Cllr Elisa O'Donovan
