Women Shaping Local Futures Programme
Starting on Thursday 5th March 7-9pm: This is a FREE programme and is a blended learning experience made up of 5 online group sessions and an overnight residential in Sligo.

Let's celebrate and support women in our community, come join Women's Collective - North Leitrim Women's Centre to meet other women from Leitrim and Donegal to support each other in our new women's empowerment and learning programme.

The Women Shaping Local Futures Programme is a supportive space to share and express your thoughts and views, grow confidence together and recognise your own community leadership skills. Over the course of the programme you will explore what community leadership means and develops your skills and confidence. Discuss and learn about local government structures in Ireland, explore equality and human rights issues, think critically about lived experiences, gender equality and issues that hold back women’s equality and participation in society. Exploring ways to empower and support those affected by gender discrimination.

Online sessions will run (7–9pm) on the following dates:

✨ Women’s Christmas / Little Christmas (Nollaig na mBan) ✨
Today we celebrate Women’s Christmas, also known as Little Christmas, a beautiful tradition rooted in history, community, and recognition. Traditionally marked on January 6th, it was a day when women—after carrying the invisible labour of Christmas—could finally rest, gather with friends, and enjoy time together.
Historically, this day acknowledged the vital role women played in keeping households, families, and traditions alive. While men took over the home for the day, women met for tea, conversation, and well-earned celebration. It wasn’t about extravagance—it was about recognition, relief, and respect.
Its relevance today still matters. Women’s Christmas reminds us to pause and appreciate the unpaid, often unnoticed work women continue to do in homes, families, and communities. It’s a moment to honour resilience, connection, and the importance of making space for rest and togetherness.
Here’s to celebrating women—past and present—and carrying forward traditions that recognise care, balance, and community. 💫
