Congratulations to the RDYSL Under 14 Girls team who won the Gaynor Shield at Limerick University last week. They survived what was undoubtedly the toughest group in the tournament. In all they played seven matches in five days and won five of the seven games. They beat Derry, Kilkenny, Kerry, North Tipperary, before beating Derry 1 - 0 in the final on Friday. Overall it was a brillant performance by all the players and their coaches and was a fitting reward for all the hard work done over many months.
Well done all.

Congratulations to the RDYSL under fourteen girls who reached the Shield final today following a 1 ..0 win over North Tipperary in Limerick. It was a fantastic team performance with Robyn Brooks scoring the winner in the first half. They play Derry in the final tomorrow.

Well done everyone who played a part in the team success

Well done to the RDFL under 14 girls team who are playing in the Gaynor Cup in Limerick since Monday. They have player 5 games and are now in the Semi Finals of the Shield.
Two huge wins today. Beat Kilkenny 2 - 1 this morning and beat a very good Kerry League team this evening. This game was scoreless after normal time but the RDFL side gave an exibition of penalty taking and are now through to the Semi Finals. Good luck tomorrow and great credit to the team, managers and everyone who helped out

Round Up 31st May 2026
Congratulations are extended to Castlerea Celtic who won the Joe Kelly sponsored Challenge Cup on Sunday following a 3 – 0 win over the Carrick on Shannon side Carrick Town at the League Grounds Lecarrow. Premier side Castlerea Celtic were clear favourites to beat their Division 2 opponents and in the early stages of the game it looked like they were going to have an easy win. Playing in their first ever Challenge Cup final Carrick elected to play with the wind but were lacking in confidence and were shocked when Dara Curran scored with an excellent volley into the top left corner of the Carrick Town net with just six minutes played. Seven minutes later it was 2 – 0 for Castlerea Celtic when a ball ran loose in the Carrick penalty area and Jack Higgins was quickest to react. Gradually Carrick Town found their feet and with Fursey Butler and Amas Tobi in sparkling form they forced two good saves from the Castlerea keeper. Despite playing against the wind in the second half Carrick Town matched their talented opponents for almost all the half but found it difficult to break down a solid Castlerea Celtic defence. With normal time completed Castlerea Celtic sealed their nineth Cup win when John Curran set up Peter Farrell and he beat the advancing keeper.
Afterwards The RDFL Chairman presented the Cup to the Castlerea Celtic Captain Jack Higgins

In the Masters League Ballaghaderreen beat St Josephs Athlone 2 – 0 at Ballaghaderreen. Chris Dunne and Shane Towey scored their goals.

James Kennedy
It was with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of our friend James Kennedy from Castlerea. The much loved James dedicated his life to the promotion of our game. He was a founding member of the Roscommon and District League and contributed greatly to its success. In his early years he played for his local Castlerea Celtic and after retiring from playing he took up refereeing. Indeed he was well known and liked as a referee and officiated at games at both local and national level. In later years he continued as President of his Club, as well as being a huge supporter of his club and the Roscommon and District League.
Probably one of his biggest achievements was that he passed on his love of the game to his sons and daughters who continue to make a huge contribution to our game. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Kathleen, sons Alan Ken, David & Derek, daughter Carola and all the extended family.
May our good friend James rest in peace

Congratulations are extended to the Castlerea Women’s team and Ballinasloe Town who had cup wins over the weekend.

The Castlerea Celtic team faced favourites Dunmore Town in the Joe Concannon Challenge Cup final and came away with a hard earned 2 – 1 win. Dunmore took the lead with twenty-nine played thanks to a well struck free kick. Meara Stephenson was quickest to react in the Dunmore penalty area and she volleyed an equaliser just seconds before the half time break. Meara Stephenson headed what turned out to be the winner with sixty-one minutes on the clock and Castlerea Celtic held on to win the game.

Ballinasloe Town and Cloonfad United clashed in the Division 1 Cup final at Lecarrow on Sunday morning. A early strike by Cameron O leary settled the Ballinasloe Town nerves and Anatolii Vovk added their second four minutes later. Cloonfad looked tired and jus could not get back in the game

In the Masters league Ballaghaderreen beat Shiven Rovers 3 – 2 at Ballaghaderreen. Roscommon United beat Ballyboro 3 - 2 at Lanesboro, Boyle Celtic beat Glen Celtic 3 – 1 at Boyle. Carrick Town and Castlerea Celtic drew 2 – 2 at Carrick on Shannon and Colemanstown beat St Josephs Athlone 4 – 1 at Colemanstown
