The club would like to offer their condolences and sincere sympathies to the Gallagher Family on the passing of Jimmy.

1992 saw a big change in the Killala angling scene when Jimmy brought the Deltic to the harbour. From there, Anglers from all around the world came to fish on board with him and to enjoy his company and knowledge that he shared with all. Jimmy kept the boat angling until 2023 and it was then he called time on his career.

His legacy, his knowledge and his commitment to the angling scene will be remembered for years to come. He also contributed greatly to the angling club here in Killala in which we are grateful for.

Rest in peace Jimmy

*Important information*

Lacken back-strand confirmed venue for the Micheal Quinn competition. After it held a great evening of fishing for the Irish men’s fish-offs with over “1000” fish between 36 anglers. Hopefully we can have some of the same luck this weekend. Plenty of cash prizes. Presentations in Gilvarrys pub Killala afterwards.

We are incredibly proud and delighted to announce Billy Gilvarry has moved up to 2nd place in the World Rankings. The Killala boat & shore angling club man has put in some serious hard yards over the past few years and is improving all the time. He is a credit to his parents and his club. Congratulations Billy and good and good luck in Italy this year 👍

Also well done to Brian, Kevin, Ed, Shane and Michael who also represented the province from Galway bay and Corrane.

The journey you all travelled, the work you all put in, the effort is a credit to you all.

In memory of our fishing friend, Killala Club will host the Micheal Quinn Memorial Shore Fishing Competition on Saturday, 31st Jan 2026. All entry proceeds will be donated to “Croí”.

Registration will be from 2 o’clock. Fishing will be 4pm until 8pm and the venue will be in the Killala area, tbc closer to the time - weather depending.

This competition is kindly sponsored by the Quinn Family, and the presentation will take place in Gilvarry’s pub Killala afterwards.

Entry fees €25 seniors, €15 juniors. All competitors must provide IFSA Affiliation number.
New to this year is a pair’s section - additional €20 fee per pair.

Cash Prizes include:
1st and 2nd overall
1st and 2nd in each zone
Longest flat and longest round
1st and 2nd pair’s
