One more message from the Harrisons. They would like all the helpers and would be helpers to take a break over the holiday weekend. Time to rest, process, and assess.

FROM THE HARRISON FAMILY OF THE THATCH:
We have been truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of wishes, support, and help from everyone over the past few days.

The fire on Sunday evening has devastated us as a family. The loss of the cottage has been heartbreaking for us children, and especially for our parents, whose sanctuary it has been after many years of hard work lovingly restoring the cottage.

The generosity and kindness shown by the community have been incredible. From the many people donating their time to the clear up, their expertise, food, and clothes, to the many thoughtful gestures, your support has meant so much to us all. Hearing how much the cottage meant to the community has been deeply moving.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone for the hard work, care, and support you have shown our parents during this difficult time. Special thanks to the Behan and Doyle children who have given up their Easter break to cart wheelbarrows of straw from the cottage.

And to Jack Farrelly, our deepest gratitude for alerting our parents to the fire and helping them get to safety. We will be forever grateful to you.

Once we have had time to process the loss, we will begin to consider the next steps and how we start the rebuild. For now, we simply need time to come to terms with everything.

Thank you once again for all the help and for everyone who has rallied around us. The support from the community has been truly amazing, and we are deeply grateful.

Peter, Maureen, Vincent, Damien, Katherine, Adrian, John and David Harrison.

There are helpers doing work you wouldn't notice. They're washing loads of clothes and dishes, supplying the crew with sandwiches and tea breaks. They are lovingly cleaning precious items of soot. The clean items are being packed away and stored off-site, sorting metals for recycling, and tidying up gardens.

The upstairs is still being emptied, but we did manage to get 95% of the first floor cleared. A monumental and daunting task. Some appliances need moving out and we could use some fresh barrowers to bring the straw outside. Maybe even a cut of the lawn wouldnt go astray. Your help is truly and deeply appreciated.

We're on the home stretch for mucking out the top floor. Excititing and sad. Could use some barrowers if you've an hour or two. Were seperating metal too.

HELPERS NEEDED at The Thatch : Tomorrow morning about 9, we work on getting the debris and items from the upstairs by hand. Would be greatful for help. People upstairs to send through a hole in the ceiling (because stairs unsafe) and several people to load wheelbarrows, and barrow out to the heap.

The hearty folks raking and shoveling the debris. Leo Reilly and his people are demolishing the kitchen. And the generosity of the sandwiches brought in for the crew. A gofundme page is being set up. Please do what you can. Maureen and Peter have lost everything.

The big machinery is gone now. We could use cleanup people with rakes to clear away some stuff. We will set up a washing station so you can help clean the soot fromsome salvageble items.

THATCH UPDATES:
-The straw from the roof is being cleared out of the interior as we speak.
-Tomorrow it will be hauled away to the recycling place.
-Tomorrow morning, heavy machinery will come and try to grab out the largest amounts of debris.
-In the afternoon, you could come with gloves, shovels and brushes to get the smaller bits out.
-Their potted plants and window boxes will be moved off site (temporarily!) and nursed back to health by a team of garden centric helpers.
- there are piles of metal bits, plastic bits, and everything recyclable to be added to for recycling.
-Paul Dillon, their next door neighbor and his whole building contractor crew donated the day doing the massive big cleanup you are seeing now.
-Sean Moriarty had a lot the GAA sportsters here helping to shift the debris out and rescue salvagable bits.
-Neighbors brought tea and sandwiches all day. A shepards pie was even made for their dinner.
- The Harris's have accomodation in a fully equipped house nearby. They have a freezer if you want to bring easy stuff for them to fix. Standard groceries would be good. Milk, tea and the like. I heard there are already a few bags of clothing given.

There is so much to say about the devastation, but this post is about helping updates.

Separately, We are all incredibly and deeply full of gratitude for the man who was driving by and saw the roof on fire. He banged on the door and got the Harris' out. He doesn't want to be called a hero but he is. Jack Farrelly you saved lives. More about that story later.

Edit: Plans in the works for a help squad. When we know more, as their friends and neighbors, we will learn what can be done to help.
Post your photos and memories of the Thatch in the meantime.
While we do not have the full accurate details of the fire, one thing we do know is the couple who live there got out safely. (Relatively speaking for having your home catch fire).
Earlier post: The Thatch at Painstown Cross is on fire, fire brigade on site. Street blocked off. What else do we know?
