Climate Action Funding secured and plans for artist residencies, podcasts, public events and a seminar (2026 - 2029)

Kildare County Council has been awarded €629,600 under Creative Climate Action Fund III for Not Going It Alone: Ar Scáth a Chéile, a three-year arts-led climate action programme that embeds creative practice within local authority climate governance to support community-led responses to biodiversity loss, climate adaptation and land-use change in County Kildare.

The programme includes a Land Use Futures Residency with 12th Field, five site-specific artist residencies across key ecological habitats, and a comprehensive public engagement programme featuring podcasts, public events and a seminar at Maynooth University. The project is designed to foster collaboration between communities, artists, researchers, environmental specialists and local authority services to develop innovative responses to the climate and biodiversity crisis.

The award forms part of Creative Climate Action Fund III, through which eleven projects nationwide have been supported from a total investment of €6.5 million. The funding recognises Kildare County Council’s leadership in integrating culture, creativity and community participation into climate action and environmental stewardship.

The project will be led by Arts in Co Kildare in partnership with a range of local authority departments, community organisations, artists, researchers and environmental practitioners, positioning County Kildare as a national leader in creative, collaborative and place-based climate action.

The initiative will generate new knowledge, foster climate literacy and strengthen community capacity for climate action.
The programme builds on Kildare County Council’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and public participation, creating meaningful opportunities for people to engage with climate issues through culture and creativity.

The CreativeIrl Creative Climate Action Fund III is supported across Government by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, the Department of Climate, Energy and Environment, the Department of the Taoiseach and EirGrid.
