We are super excited to share that our World Restart a Heart 💓 Day colouring sheets have landed in local primary schools across Naas, Sallins, and Johnstown this week! 🏫🎒

Available in both English and Gaeilge, these fun activity sheets are designed to help young learners discover the essential basics of emergency awareness:
📞 Calling 999 or 112 (Raising the Alarm)
💓 Hands-Only CPR
⚡ What an AED (Defibrillator) does
👀 Spotting AEDs in your local area

As well as colouring, Naas CFR will be visiting some schools next week 🙌🏻

🕵️‍♂️ Spot the AED Scavenger Hunt: Next time you’re out walking, shopping, or at sports practice in Naas, Sallins, or Johnstown, turn it into a game! Help your child look out for bright 24/7 public AED cabinets throughout the community.

🗣️ Have a Chat: Use the colouring page to talk with your children about what to do in an emergency and practice how to state your home address & eircode clearly to 999 or 112 call-takers.

Amazing news released ahead of World Restart a Heart Day (16th Oct)! 🫀✨

The latest National Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register (OHCAR 2025) report is in, and our local efforts are beating European averages! Overall survival in Ireland has jumped to 9.7% (n = 266 / 2,756), with 32% surviving in witnessed, shockable cases! 🎉🙌

🌍 Ireland vs. Europe:

• 🇮🇪 85% Bystander CPR: Highest worldwide & way ahead of the 58% EU average!
• 📈 9.7% Survival Rate: Above the European average of 7.5%–8%!
• ⚡ 35% Pre-EMS Defibrillation: Over a third get shocked before an ambulance arrives—half delivered by CFRs & half by YOU, our community! 👏
• 🧠 99% Full Brain Recovery: Almost all survivors return home with good to moderate brain function!

📰 DID YOU SEE US IN THE LEINSTER LEADER THIS WEEK! 🗞

Earlier this year when our Naas CFR team noticed 👀 the Care at homes' AED at the Fairgreen needed some TLC we reached out to Caroline and the fantastic team at Care at Home Services on the Kilcullen Road.📱

🏠They are truly "a local service, for local people, by local people"—and their incredible community spirit matches our own! 🙌
Just like our volunteer responders, Care at Home is dedicated to looking out for our neighbors and keeping our local community safe. 🏡💙

Instead of a quick fix, Care at Home sponsored a BRAND-NEW AED & 24/7 outdoor heated cabinet right on Kilcullen Road! 👏
🌟This kind gift protects our entire community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! 🏆

It’s been a busy and incredibly rewarding week for the Naas CFR team! Here is a look at what we’ve been up to across Naas, Sallins, and Johnstown:

🏃‍♂️ Run, Jim, Run! 👟
A huge best of luck to our brilliant instructor Jim, who is taking on the Naas town 10km today! 🏃‍♂️💨 If you’re out along the route today, make sure to give Jim a big cheer and shout-out when you see him flying by! 👏🎉

🤝 AED Guardianship Scheme Update – 7 Applications & Counting! 👏
We are thrilled to share that we’ve already received 7 applications for our new AED Guardianship Scheme! A massive thank you to the estates and communities stepping up to make our areas HeartSafe.

💡 Quick Reminder for Residents Associations:
If your residents association in Naas, Sallins, or Johnstown agrees to purchase a suitable outdoor heated cabinet and look after ongoing replacement costs, Naas CFR will GIFT you an AED in a guardianship capacity - apply now! We only have a limited no. of these life saving devices available

🩺 Tuesday Training: Refining Life-Saving Skills
On Tuesday evening, Leigh and Jay led the team through a comprehensive resuscitation skills session.
Our volunteers brushed up on the latest resus guidelines, focusing on optimum AED pad placement, airway management with OPAs (Oropharyngeal Airways), and multi-person ventilation using a Bag Valve Mask (BVM). Continuous training keeps our team sharp, confident, and ready when every second counts! ⏱️⚡

📰 Thursday Celebration: A New Public AED on Kilcullen Road!
On Thursday, Martina, Deyana, and Jim dropped down to celebrate with the wonderful team at Care at Home on Kilcullen Road! 👏
Care at Home have purchased a brand-new AED and outdoor heated cabinet, making this life-saving equipment 100% publicly accessible 24/7 to the local community. A huge thank you for investing in local heart safety—you are true community heroes! 🏆🫀

🚨 CALLING ALL RESIDENTS' COMMITTEES IN NAAS, SALLINS & JOHNSTOWN! 🚨

Is your residential estate ready to become Heart Safe? 🫀⚡

Thanks to funding secured through the HSE National Lottery Grant Scheme, Naas CFR is officially opening applications for our AED Guardianship Scheme! We are gifting a small number of Public Access Defibrillators directly into local housing estates.🏡⚡️

Because we have a strictly limited supply of devices, all applications will be reviewed based on estate size, location coverage, site feasibility, and committee backing.

How the Scheme Works 🤝
🎁 We Provide: A grant-funded AED unit under a Guardianship Model. Naas CFR retains ownership , handles registration with the National Ambulance Service (NAS 999/112), and periodic maintenance checks.
📦 You Provide: Selected estates commit to fundraising for an approved outdoor heated cabinet within a 6 week window and covering future consumables (pads/batteries every few years).

Cabinet Options & Target Budget 💶
Estates will need to fundraise for one of the following approved heated options:
🔌 Mains-Powered Outdoor Cabinet: From €465+ (requires 230V power supply)
☀️ Solar Wall-Mounted Cabinet: From €1,010+ (off-grid)
🪛 Solar Post/Pillar Cabinet: From €1,800+ (for central green areas)

Important Rules & Compliance
⚠️ 🗣️ Committee Approval: Applications must be formally discussed and approved by your Residents' Committee or owners management committee (OMC) before submitting.
🛑 Hold on Fundraising: Do NOT start fundraising for a cabinet until your application is officially accepted! 🛠️ 🔎Maintenance: Naas CFR will check units periodically. If an AED is not maintained or consumables replaced, Naas CFR will repossess the unit and reallocate it to another estate.

🚨📢 THIS IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!! REAL-LIFE HERO IN ACTION! 🚨📢🙌❤️✨

We received some absolutely INCREDIBLE news today that brought the biggest smiles to our whole team! 🥹✨
Just under a month ago, a person attended one of our community training sessions to learn life-saving CPR and choking relief. This week they had to put those exact skills to the test😱: a child choking. 💔🙈

It was a FULL OBSTRUCTION—total silence, zero air moving, and absolutely no time to hesitate! 🛑🤐 Without missing a beat, our amazing trainee jumped straight into action, delivered 5 firm back slaps, 5 abdominal thrusts, cycyling actions and CLEARED THE BLOCKAGE COMPLETELY!! 💥🎉 Breathing restored, emergency over, and the little one is safe, happy, and doing great!! 👶❤️💪✨

THIS is the power of community training! When panic strikes, muscle memory takes over and saves a life! 🧠⚡🔗

🚨 Choking is a sudden, terrifying emergency that can happen to anyone, anywhere, in the blink of an eye! 👀⚡
🚑 Within 2-3mins if the blockage is not relieved the choking person becomes unresponsive & you must switch to cpr ⏱️

To our incredible local hero: WE ARE SO, SO PROUD OF YOU!! 🏅💙 You stayed calm under pressure and saved a precious life. You are a true HeartSafe Champion!! 🏆🌟👏

🏫 Back to School with Holy Child Primary School Ballycane 🚸
As the kids headed back to school, so did Naas CFR! 📚✏️ We had a fantastic training session with the amazing teaching staff and faculty at Holy Child Primary School in Ballycane. The school, its students, and their families are in very safe hands! 💪❤️

🏡 Community Power in Whitethorn 🙌
A huge shoutout to the Whitethorn Residents' Committee 💪who reached out for a community training evening! We covered hands-on CPR, infant and child emergency care, adult choking relief, and FAST stroke recognition. 🩺⚡ It’s always inspiring to see neighbours coming together to protect one another!🤝

Vicki and Martina travelled to Mullingar today to attend Respond, the national CFR conference! 📖It was an incredibly empowering day connecting with responder groups from across the country, running through complex scenario training, and keeping our knowledge and skills razor-sharp. 🚑💡

While at the conference, we got an exciting sneak peek at the upcoming 2025 OHCAR (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Register) results, and the stats are unbelievable:
