We were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of six-year old Ula Grigaityte who was struck by a truck while cycling her bicycle on the outskirts of Galway city.

Our heartfelt sympathies are with Ula’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

As a Galway-based voluntary group campaigning for safer streets for pedestrians, cyclists and those using wheelchairs and buggies, we will continue to work Council and other stakeholders to highlight dangerous junctions and fight for improvements to our infrastructure to make our streets safer for all.

Please get in touch if you wish to get involved or highlight a dangerous junction in your locality.

May little Ula rest in peace ❤️

❄️ Dangerous Footpaths after Ice ❄️

A few of us are planning to grit / salt a few Galway city footpaths tomorrow evening (Sunday) to improve safety in advance of Monday’s ice and snow.

We’re looking for suggestions for the highest priority spots: Steep places near schools or other high traffic areas where walkers and wheelers might fall. Please share suggestions in the comments! Thanks

Thanks to the Connacht Tribune - Galway City Tribune for highlighting the dangers at this junction. Forcing fast-moving traffic to cross a cyclelane was never a good idea!

A campaign group has called for an urgent independent safety review of some of Galway’s busiest junctions following a serious collision between a lorry driver and a cyclist on a slip road off the Quincentenary Bridge that caused lengthy tailbacks in rush hour on all routes. There were also unconfi...

Distraught to hear of yet another incident at a Galway junction renowned for danger to cyclists. We hope the seriously injured man makes a speedy recovery.

It’s infuriating that despite years of formal notifications to Galway City Council (we have seen at least 5 separate emails) the only intervention by the Council was to increase the speed limit here. Our second image, taken in 2022, shows the dangers of the location where the collision occured.

This has to stop.

Distraught to hear of yet another incident at a Galway junction renowned for danger to cyclists.

We hope the seriously injured man can somehow rebuild his life.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was taken University Hospital Galway to be treated for serious injuries.

It’s wild that plans to spend a fortune upgrading the and after the work, there won’t be any safe crossing on 2 of the 5 arms. Can you let them know it needs to be better?

Image 1 shows the reported incidents and near misses at the Browne Roundabout on the self-reporting website collisiontracker.ie

Image 2 shows the Council’s plans to add crossings at only 3 of the 5 arms of the roundabout.

Image 3 shows a what the Browne Roundabout (left) could look like if we transform it into a Dutch-style roundabout like the one in Cambridge UK (right). These are far safer for pedestrians and wheelers. This has been done in Ireland before in Dublin 15 and is in line with the NTA Active Travel guidelines.

We spoke to on about our campaign to make the safer for pedestrians and wheelers. Find the link to listen back in our stories. Galway City Council’s current plans involve adding crossings at 3 arms of the roundabout but we need safe crossings at all 5!

It’s the most reported roundabount in the country for incidents and near misses on the self-reporting website collisiontracker.ie We need to prioritisesafety now!

We propose a Dutch-style roundabout as detailed on our campaign website www.browneroundaboutgalway.weebly.com

Huge thanks to , and Michelle Obermair for allowing us to use their winning website for our campaign. Take a look. This concept is a no brainer for us and we urge to take a look too.
